Gavin’s tease that Ava lacks gumption traps her in agreeing to participate in a wet and messy video shoot. But she gains a measure of revenge by demanding that he join her at the shoot.

Yogurt slithers down her neck, custard penetrates her hair, syrup dribbles down her back. Whipped cream under her dress sends shivers up her spine. But still, Ava stands tall.

Then Gavin brings out a ladle full of beans and sauce.

“That’s disgusting!” she yells.

But all Gavin does is smirk.

When would I learn to keep my mouth shut?!?

Just because Gavin had asked me what the company I worked for actually produced hadn’t required me to go into detail. Why hadn’t I simply said ‘commercial’ instead of specifying ‘wet and messy’?!

And now everyone at work would be talking about my upcoming humiliation! Ava, when will you ever learn?

At work, it had been even worse than I’d feared. As soon as I’d opened the doors to WSM Productions, I’d been met with a chorus of sniggers. The more forward of my erstwhile colleagues had held their hands in the shape of a rectangle as if framing a movie shot. What do you think, one had asked,
