About this ebook

How would you know if or when God called you to serve Him full time? Would you dismiss His call as you would an annoying insect or would you sit up and listen? After all He has your name and number, and He isn’t calling for nothing........
While this little book was written to chronicle my own call, I'm sure it's message is equally as important for you as I have no doubts that God is  calling you and it would be a tragedy if you missed the call. If you are really serious about exploring your call, and that may well not be into the ordained ministry, this book will give you suggestions on how to test that call. The Bible tells us that we are all saints and in the same way I believe we are all to be ministers. After all, we are encouraged to test things and in the back of the mind will always be that great question mark. Is it indeed God calling or is it just wishful thinking on my part?

    1.

I went through the usual childhood upbringing of being dropped off for Sunday school when it suited the family, to being ‘confirmed’ when I reached the age of thirteen. I often still wonder if this age is regarded by parents as some sort of magical age because we have now reached puberty and our elders felt it was time for us ‘to be done’ before we do in fact start feeling the desire to get out there and ‘sow our wild oats.’ Be that as it may I still remember so clearly my confirmation preparation. Although I enjoyed the fact that there were girls in the classes (I was at an all-boys school at that time), I was more excited about being able to ‘take Communion’ after my confirmation than actually being confirmed. To me being confirmed meant that I was now grown-up and could participate with the adults while the children still couldn’t. I don’t believe I was ever made aware of what I was supposed to be doing in class.

I made a valiant effort after my confirmation to get to church on Sundays but it was only much later that I managed to get to church every Sunday and that was because I got my driver’s licence and didn’t have to rely on getting a lift to church. Sometimes I wonder at the influence the driver’s licence played in my church attendance – was it not much more than an opportunity to drive the car? It was while I was already at university  that I felt the call to become an altar server and I’m still not sure in my own mind that this was genuine because my elder cousin had also become a server and today I wonder how much influence my hero worship of him played in my decision.

When I met my wife she had not been confirmed and she made the decision for herself to get confirmed and occasionally I went to classes with her. In doing so she
