About this ebook

What You Don't See Might Hurt You

Every year, residents of the small Amish community in Monte Vista, Colorado, look forward to the Ski Hi Stampede, the state's oldest professional rodeo. The rodeo is always good, clean entertainment for the hardworking farmers of the San Luis Valley. But this year, the Stampede turns deadly for one Amish man. Did rodeo fans see an unfortunate accident? Or something more sinister?

Amish bishop Henry Lapp is known far and wide for his uncanny ability to draw and remember the smallest details of anything he's seen, skills that have served him well in past investigations. He was at the rodeo that day. The problem? He didn't see Jeremiah Schwartz's death.

With a murderer on the loose and members of his community being threatened, Henry must act fast. But can he solve a crime he didn't see? This time around, Henry will have to rely on his keen sense of human character and observation, skills he's honed in his role as bishop, if he hopes to crack the case.

Who the Bishop Knows is a story of accepting our talents, putting one another first, and trusting that God will care for His children.

Title: Who the Bishop Knows (The Amish Bishop Mysteries #3)Author: Vannetta ChapmanPages: 352Year: 2018Publisher: Harvest HouseMy rating is 4 out of 5 stars.Henry Lapp and Emma Fisher are attending the annual rodeo in their small community of Monte Vista, Colorado. It is the state’s oldest professional rodeo and a source of entertainment for those from miles around. The Amish and English both attend and enjoy the event together. Before the professionals take the stage, it is amateur hour for those who aspire to join the professional circuit. A young Amish man, who is still enjoying his Rumspringa, has his sight set on this career, but someone has another idea in mind. As Jeremiah Schwartz leaves the shoot to tackle a steer, he is shot. Henry hears the shot, but has been waiting in line for hot dogs. He is unable to use his remarkable gift of drawing an exact recreation of the scene at the time of the shot as he wasn’t watching the rodeo. The local authorities know about Henry’s ability, but this time they need his help convincing the Amish to help the authorities. Henry questions and observes various people as he tries to ferret out the killer. A dark side to young Jeremiah is revealed, but will this lead Henry to the killer? Is there anyone else in the killer’s sight? Emma longs to marry Henry and start their married life together. She wants nothing to do with any more mysteries. Two have been enough for her, thank you very much! She wants to help Henry and support him in his role as bishop to their Amish community, so she prays for all involved.I’m sorry to see this series end as I have enjoyed getting to know Henry and Emma. The conclusion to this novel is touching and sincere. I admire Henry and his ability to pray during the most stressful situations with such heart. Emma is practical and a real “Martha”, but her love for Henry is evident throughout. The mystery portion of this novel wasn’t as gripping as the first two novels, and the first third to half of the book was slow going, but the second half got much better. The ability of Henry to gather the community of Amish and work together, as well as work with Englishers to bring a criminal to justice was awesome! The reminder that God takes care of His own was great to see in the story. This is a series that will hold readers captive for hours of enjoyment, so get all three books today!

This series has been so fun to read. The author has a gift for detail and makes her characters so easy to relate to. Henry Lapp has a unique gift that comes in handy . He can remember even the tiniest of details that he has seen. His ability to draw those details is a gift that I'm sure many police stations would love to have on their staff. I can't remember my own phone number sometimes, so this gift would be a treasure to have.As the annual rodeo in Monte Vista, Colorado gears up, an unexpected tragic event happens. Jeremiah has everything to look forward to. He is in the rodeo hoping for a career when he is shot. I would immediately be looking for Henry to help pinpoint who the killer is. Funny thing about gifts, though. Sometimes they aren't as good as you think they are. Henry is upset that he didn't see anything but maybe he can convince his Amish community to speak up. Amish aren't ones to get the police involved in their problems so Henry is going to have to be on his game to get the killer behind bars. The story is filled with intrigue and I loved how the author draws you in with emotional twists and turns. I have always like Henry and the love of his life, Emma. Will this case cause Emma to second think marrying Henry? His gift would be a challenge to have to live with, so Emma must really search her heart. Let's not forget about Jeremiah, our deceased in the story. What secrets did he have that could have caused him to be a target? I was surprised at who turned out to be the killer and why they did it. It just shows how creative the author is when you can keep readers guessing til the end. I'm sad to see the series end, but very pleased with the ending. It is a fitting send off for a series that captured the essence of unconditional love and forgiveness.I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.

Were you wondering if Henry seen another murder? Well what if Henry did not and though the person does not know that. The murderer seem to think he knows more about Jermiamiah murder? What of his talents, he does not see him or know that he there. Henry does embrace his talent. Will is solved the crime or not? Emma knows Henry did not see what happen and so does the police though they did ask him if his special talent would help.Do they know that the murderer is living among them? Does Naomi know more than any of the youngsters. The young adults appear brought into this murder. Is it personal or not?Two girls get kidnapped but why and for what reason? How is Henry and Emma involved? I seem that there a secret going on and that get reveal as wellVannetta does a wonderful job of doing it and closing out the series. What up with having a bishop that knows and seem to find all the clues. See if he can help the English police to solve the crime.

Who the Bishop Knows by Vannetta Chapman is the third story in The Amish Bishop Mysteries. Bishop Henry Lapp is attending the Ski Hi Stampede in Monte Vista, Colorado with his fiancé, Emma Fisher. Jeremiah Schwartz comes out of the chute to wrangle a steer and a shot rings out. Henry, who was obtaining refreshments, runs to check on Emma and notices Jeremiah on the ground. Unfortunately, Jeremiah does not survive the bullet wound. Jeremiah was visiting his grandmother, Ruth Schwartz for the summer to help her with farm chores, and he competes at local rodeo’s as an amateur steer wrangler. Who would want to harm Jeremiah? In the past, Henry has used his unique gift to draw scenes to help solve crimes. This time, though, Henry did not witness the shooting. Sheriff Roy Grayson will still need Henry’s help in speaking with Jeremiah’s friends and family as well as utilizing his observation skills and ability to judge a person’s character. They soon discover that Jeremiah had secrets and one of them could have gotten him killed. Can they catch the culprit before he harms someone else? Henry would like the crime solved before his wedding to Emma in three weeks. Come to Monte Vista one last time to help Bishop Henry Lapp solve Jeremiah’s murder and see the nuptials of this adorable couple.Who the Bishop Knows is the final installment in The Amish Bishop Mysteries. It can be read as a standalone since the author provides details on Henry’s ability, his relationship with Emma, and the mysteries from the previous two books. I do not feel, though, that the author had to keep mentioning the prior mysteries (the details were repeated several times). Who the Bishop Knows contains good writing and fluid transitions. I found the pace a little slow in the first half of the book. The story was not moving forward. The pacing does pick up later in the book. The mystery was interesting, but the culprit can be easily identified. How Jeremiah was murdered was unique (modern and out-of-box). I have not encountered it in a book previously. I do wish there had been more action. The investigation, for the most part, consists of questioning and speculation. The one thing I did not like was the transcript sections (a transcript of police interviews). They disrupt the flow of the story. Those sections remind me of reading a script (static is the word that comes to mind). There is a significant amount of scripture in Who the Bishop Knows. I like how the author tied each verse into what was occurring at the time. It was lovely to visit Monte Vista and catch up with Henry and Emma. They are such a sweet couple. I have enjoyed watching their relationship develop over the course of the series. I am glad that Henry has learned to accept his gift. The ending of Who the Bishop Knows was just lovely and heartfelt.

This is the third book in this series and I am rather sad to see it end, I loved being with Henry, the Amish Bishop, and Emma, his soon to be wife, and would love to continue on with their lives. In this book, the author has an Amish man competing in a Rodeo, and then he is murdered, in front of everyone, but no one seems to know where the shot came from.As the story unfolds, surprises abound, and we learn of a dark side of this Rodeo Amish man, and who is responsible, and when you think you know the answers, things begin to spiral. While I guessed early on who the perpetrator was, the story still kept me page turning, and when you learn how the shot was fired was mind boggling. As I said I will miss this bishop and the people around him, and really hope for more.I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Harvest House, and was not required to give a positive review.

Who the Bishop Knows is the third book and conclusion in this sweet Amish cozy murder mysteries. If that doesn't sound like a juxtaposition, it should. I think that is why I like Vannetta Chapman's series so well. She holds up the slower, trusting life of the Amish, represented by Henry Lapp and Emma Fisher and her clan, against the fast-paced life of the English world as it invades Henry and Emma's world once again with murder.I love Henry and Emma and so many things about them. Their growing relationship as they prepare for their marriage; their gentleness and determination to be supportive of each other in whatever way possible; and also, their mutual love for their flock as well. They complement each other perfectly in their care for the People.Chapman reminds us that Amish young people face the same temptations as their Englischer counterparts. Jeremiah Schwartz has his sights set on the rodeo circuit before (if) he joins the Church, and something about that desire brings his death.Chapman ups the ante in this last book by limiting Henry's abilities. It is so neat to see how he and Emma finally reach their conclusions by other means. There were several other surprises as well that helped make this story the treat that I had expected. If you love Amish and cozies, you won't go wrong in picking up this series or this book. Best as part of the series, Who the Bishop Knows can stand alone as well.I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher. I am under no obligation to leave a positive review, and all opinions are my own.Quotable: " Sometimes dishonesty wasn't a matter of telling a lie. Sometimes it was as simple as not telling the truth."
