    Death Songs Volume 1 - N. M. Martin

    Chapter I

    Salvation Seeds

I look up at the man in the moon

I know he sees the pain in my eyes

Says he hopes I get well soon

    But holds a wicked grin

    I can tell he lies

I call his bluff to take my life

    Threatens to kill me with

My own hands and a knife

    Talks down

    Reinforcing my uselessness

    He cannot size me up

I reminisce of the days I was small

Playing on my driveway with a ball

    The moon glares back stronger

    Defenses fall

I think the happiest of thoughts

    Rebuilding my wall

    My pen is my sword

    My mind a spear

    Loved ones seem distant though

In reality could not be more near

To say I am lying about my afflictions

Would not be truthful in the least

    Despite all my rage

I am trapped in a cage

    Waiting to unleash the beast

    I sit contemplating my fallacies

Spun a web so people could not see

    The ugly side of me

    The lengths I go through

    To remain concealed are

    Not enough

To this illness I must yield

    My mind is ugly

    This world cruel

Civilians consume and believe the stigma

Their peers serve them as if gruel

What people think of mental illness

Is an opinion of their own

    I simply do good deeds

    Plant my seeds

    Until my salvation is grown

    Holding On

    I will hold on

    Stay strong

Drop a bomb on mental illness

    Expose it

Make sure the world knows of it

    Cease the stigma

Cut the cord on this enigma

    Take out its knees

Unleash upon him a swarm of bees

    Gouge out its eyes

Make the man in the moon cry

    Tell of his lies

    Blow away the disguise
