H.A.T.S. Helping Alleviate Tumultuous Seasons Volume 1, Book 1 - Kelly Cornish

I knew early on that my purpose in life was to sow into others at the cost of transparency. My life has been filled with helping others maneuver through their life while putting my own struggles on the back burner. I have found over the years that my personal struggles and triumphs have helped many people, and to me this is priceless. I have always written about my feelings as long as I can remember because it was a natural form of self-expression. With the encouragement from others and an inner desire to reach a multitude of people, I began to entertain the idea of publishing a book.

I formally began my writing journey in 2009. However, life did not stand still long enough for me to finish. I have many stories of strength and perseverance that I desire to share beyond the personal contacts, the occasional workshop, and speaking engagement. I grasped any and all educational opportunities for self-growth and validation only to realize that my experiences validate me. They are a part of who I am and serve as the foundation for my helping behavior.

The emergence of H.A.T.S. Started from an autobiography that I worked on for years, and I was not emotionally ready to publish. God lead my words, but I still needed to work through my own baggage in order for me to be objective in my writing. As a compromise, I decided to discuss the many roles that women juggle through the HATS they constantly change to fulfill the multiple roles in their lives, with a little twist of myself. I wear many HATS, and I know the personal struggle and feelings that manifest when the HAT is worn too long or not enough. I briefly submerge myself in this journey to show you, the reader, that you are not alone. I have been through some things and one of them was to deal with myself— the one thing that someone else could not do for me.

My life scripture is Proverbs 3:18 which reads She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. The tree is bountiful for all who chose to hold it fast. It is full of wisdom, acceptance, and love. Everyone has the opportunity to reap the abundance of benefits the tree of life holds. Wisdom is priceless and should be shared whenever the opportunity arrives. Every person has wisdom to share and it is my desire to use transparency to show others that there is value to all life experiences, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I want to give wisdom to encourage others, so they can become empowered and evolve into a stronger person. This will give them the wisdom to enlighten and educate others, thus keeping the helping nature alive and thriving.

    Introduction

All hats have something in common. They provide a covering, along with symbolizing something or someone with easy identification. Whether for protection, beauty, work-related, a silly occasion, or your messy hair, and you just want to cover it up, hats serve the purpose. The connection between hats and our lives is complex, but not as complex as one may think. It can be a rather simple concept. As women, we struggle to fill the role that is associated with many hats. At any age or stage of life, the role of a woman is interchangeable in any circumstance presented. Therefore, it is important to understand when, where, and how often a specific role should be played.

Just as our life changes so does the hat. The hats should be interchangeable, never wearing anyone for too long. The key is to balance the multiple hats that are worn to navigate through life daily. I have interchanged these hats daily in my life and had good experiences and bad experiences. I have felt immense joy and intolerable pain all at the expense of the hat I chose to wear on my head. I had to learn which hat to wear and when to take it off, when to change it and when to never put it on my head again! You are no different from me and can reap the benefits of learning how to manage and change your hats to achieve balance and peace in your life.

Come with me on this journey of changing HATS and be prepared to indulge in intense self-reflection activities without judgment. This book will help you identify and change your HATS to restore and maintain balance in your constantly changing life.

    The Hard Hat

    Construction Zone

    You’re a Work in Progress

Put on your hard hat and take cover because we as women are a work in progress. We work endlessly to create, rebuild, maintain, and grow. The strength in the construction hat is that it offers the protection we need when things fall on us as we work tirelessly, and at times without gratitude, to handle everything and ourselves at the same time. It protects us from the site we are working in and gives us the coverage we need to proceed with caution as we enter areas of the known and unknown.

We never fully evolve because growth is a necessity of life, hence, a life that is full of construction. Growth should occur daily as we maneuver diligently acquiring lessons, disappointments, and victories. Our lives consist of laying foundations, building frames, running the necessities, which makes the house function (wiring and plumbing), hanging sheet rock, painting, and doing the finish work with no detail left unturned. If we are lucky, we can decorate to our pleasing which would represent the blessing after all the hard work put into the current situation in our life. As women, it feels like we are expected to do it all and it creates a sense of being overwhelmed and stress.

    The Relevance

No life will evolve without construction. There are three types of construction that
