Patrice Joseph
Patrice Joseph was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is the youngest of four children born to O’Neil and Bessie Woods. She graduated from the historic Xavier University Preparatory High School. She holds a degree in elementary education from Dillard University of New Orleans, Louisiana, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Xavier University of New Orleans, Louisiana. In addition to more than twenty years of classroom teaching experience, she is also a strong advocate for teachers and students. She has strong family ties and believes family comes first. Hurricane Katrina was an experience that put her family’s faith into action. The result was a family that was still intact, that was thankful for survival, and with an action plan for building the future.

To my parents O’Neil and Bessie Woods for always motivating me to do my best at whatever I choose to do in life. Thank you for instilling in me the power of prayer and constantly reminding me that anything is possible if I’m willing to work for it.

Author’s Note
I wanted this book to be an easy read. I want it to be a tool teachers can use no matter if you are a first year teacher or a veteran teacher. The purpose of this book is to serve as a guide to simple but best practices that will steer any teacher in a positive direction. This work is a result of my years of development and experience as a classroom teacher and leader.
There are many family members, teachers, principals and coworkers who are responsible for the success I’ve achieved as a teacher. They’ve coached me over the years and instilled in me solid teaching practices that are now embedded within me. Meaningful collaboration with teachers from various districts and solid work relationships also steered me in the direction to a successful teaching career.
Thousands of teachers around the world get up each and every day committed to teach. We don’t always get the credit we deserve. This is my 21st year of teaching and I wanted to devote some time giving advice about the profession I love.
