Endnotes
First of all, I want to thank God for the awesome family I was raised in and the strength He gave me to live a godly life and to stay pure for my husband. I thank my husband, Frank, for always believing in me and encouraging me to do things I never thought I could. He was my biggest supporter while I wrote this. Also, I thank my children (Jennifer, Frank Jr., and Dave) and my daughters-in-law (both named Angela) for pushing me forward in my work and for being the wonderful young adults that they are. I thank my sister, Dr. Joyce Eckard, for her input and help on the sexually transmitted diseases chapter. Thanks guys … I couldn’t have written this book without all of you.
Introduction
As long as I can remember, I have loved God. I grew up in a Christian family that not only talked about God, but actually lived in a godly manner. I thank my mom and dad for that. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I had what some would call the perfect childhood.
We had our share of problems, but there was always peace and laughter in our home. I had so much fun as a teenager. I guess I didn’t realize it until I was older, but those years were fun because I put God first and hung out with friends who loved God too. There was no pressure to do wrong things or go to inappropriate places. We just had fun. When I started dating, I determined in my heart that I would date only Christian guys. That didn’t stop temptation, but it sure helped a lot. My goal was to stay pure sexually for my husband. That, to me, was the greatest gift I could give him on our wedding night. It wasn’t that my parents drilled that into me, but I just loved God so much that I knew I wanted to please Him.
I graduated from Zion Bible College, got married, and ended up in full-time ministry. My husband, Frank, was a youth pastor. We worked together with youth for almost twenty years and have now pastored a church for the past fifteen years. During those years, we have seen some of our youth give in to the pressures of sex. We sat with some of those girls as they told their parents they were pregnant. We cried with the parents because we knew the heartache that was ahead. We knew that sex was God’s gift to marriage and that the church should be the place to hear it taught in the right way. We started teaching a lot of what is in this book. We have a passion to show young people that they can stay pure until marriage. We want them to know that they can have happy, fun-filled dates and still stay pure.
I want you young people who are reading this book, whether you are twelve years old or thirty years old, to stay pure for your own sake. Marriage is wonderful, but if you enter it with baggage
you will have to work even harder. If you have already messed up in the sex
