About this ebook
Welcome to My Life in Metaphor, one mans life experiences and views of life, death, and everything in between.
My writing reflects
growing up a part of two distinct, rich cultures;
training as a scientist and public health professional;
work and residence in three foreign countries Brazil, Jordan and Ecuador;
a love of nature; and,
great respect for our country, but concern about a decline in our nations values the growing hostility and intolerance, technology as a substitute for direct human contact, and excessive violence.
I hope you will enjoy my poetry, find it interesting and thought-provoking.
Sincerely,
Joseph Baldi Acosta

Comments received regarding the collection of poems in My Life in Metaphor, by Joseph Baldi Acosta
Joseph Baldi Acosta offers us a range of delectable verse, sweeping globally from magenta borderlands of the Southwest to vertiginous views of modern art. Whether chiseling a fine, fixed form, or shearing a with the variable foot, Baldi Acosta is ensconced in his element, and the result is illuminating. Relish these poems for pure delight and apt instruction.

With Still Life Moving Fast
the reader enters Joseph Baldi Acosta’s book of mystical wonders:
the Holy Spirit sent to replay scenes of a still life moving fast—/ in reverse, back to the womb and creation, or forward to what awaits.
In this debut collection one visits the Greater Southwest with its deserts and cultural richness, expanding onto East L.A. It’s in the cultural spiral that Acosta taps our curiosity:
Curandero /
with thick, mystical /
two-thumbed right hand, /
how do you cure me /
with blessed holy water, then /
making the sign of the cross /
on my bloated belly?
(Curandero of Juarez
).
Adeptly, he captures that element of humanity in The Mission
and other poems that leads him to his calling of being on a
poetic mission.
