About this ebook

Roses are Read is an eclectic collection of poems that express the struggles and stages of teenage existence. From first kiss to first heartbreak, awkward moments to awkward stages, and broken lies to broken cries, Roses are Read illustrates what average (and not so average) teenagers experience every day and after. No one will understand the ups and downs of struggling to balance school, friendship, young love, disappointment, and learn to recognize yourself better than a teen. Get lost within the sad, twisted, and perplexed mind of a lovestruck adolescent trying to figure out what helps the heart beat and stops it from bleeding.

Desiree Brown

Desiree Brown, now eighteen, has been writing since she was able to. When young, she wrote poems, lyrics, and short stories in her spare time and began her first fictional novel at age thirteen. She had also written short scripts for the performing arts department at her local YMCA and had seen them come to life on stage. Homeschooled for grades kindergarten through twelfth grade, she began college classes studying English and American Literature at the local community college at age fifteen. Now enrolled in a four-year university, Desiree is currently working on her degree in English and minor in Creative Writing. She continues writing to speak out to other adolescents and young adults and looks forward to having a long standing career in writing poems as well as short stories and fictional novels.

    Roses Are Read

    1.jpg

    Roses are read.

    Violets are blown.

    Take me to a place,

    To a world unknown,

    Where the grass grows greener,

    Where the hurtful are perished,

    Where the hurting are healing,

    And the different are cherished,

    Where the hiding are unhidden

    And free to be free,

    Where the dying are protected

    And free to die young,

    Where the young aren’t forced

    To die young at all,

    Where the people are painted

    And the pictures are hung.

Let the air blow through me

And the dirt lie beneath me.

Let the sky shine above me

And the people all love me.

    Let me find my acceptance

In this world in my head,

    Where the violets are blown

    And the roses are read.

    Tears fall down fast.

    Secrets told to hear.

    Spreading rumors drag

    Heartbeats to hide.

    Jealousy to fear.

    Sharing too far.

    Talking too near.

    Desires to cry.

    Chances to cheer.

    Wishes to Chase.

    Charming

    1.jpg

    Prince Charming stands before me

    And I’ve grown numbingly stupid.

    With such angelic features,

I think I’ve fallen for Cupid.

I believe I could look miles

    Into his bright blue eyes.

    With all my vulnerability,

    Is loving him that unwise?

    Though he
