Synopsis
Inside the Mind of a Killer is a mini book of cases under the following themes:
•Life insurance
•Crimes of jealousy/love/revenge
•Disturbed psychopath (serial killer: general/sexual offender)
•Law manipulations, child custody, and divorce
•Mental Illness
•Poor areas associated with theft, gangs, and murder.
The first section includes three case scenarios with the three main characters Don, Beth, and Elena. Each scenario demonstrates a murder case that revolves around life insurance compensation.
The second section includes four case scenarios with murder as a result of jealousy, love, and revenge. The murderer could be a family member, work colleague, or a partner. The four main characters in those scenarios are Amelia, James, Brian, and Albert.
The third section includes four case scenarios of murder committed by individuals with mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, anti-social personality disorder, multiple dissociative personality, and borderline personality disorder. The main characters in those scenarios are Graig, Sean, Enrique, and Gerard.
The fourth section includes four case scenarios of murder where lies were the main motive. These include living more than one life or a love story or marriage with a liar. The four main characters in these scenarios are Mortimer, Holly, Edward, and Albert.
The section that follows includes three case scenarios with the three main characters: Alex, Bob, and King. In these scenarios, the murder is committed by a psychopath serial killer who could be a sexual offender.
Next, there is a section that includes one case scenario of murder with the primary motive of child custody and divorce by means of law manipulation. The main character in this case scenario is France.
The final section includes one case scenario of a murderer from a poor area known for theft, gangs, drug, alcohol, and murder.
The above scenarios include the following issues:
How the police caught the murderer, the murder weapon, how the murderer tried to cover up the crime, how the murder was committed, what increased suspicion after the murder, where the killer disposed of the body, and how the body was found.
Finally, there is a small part at the end on love, lust, physical attraction, and relationships based on a survey conducted through Qualtrics online.
A checklist is presented at the start of the book followed by a series of scenarios under each heading. The audience for the book is meant to be eighteen and over and it covers fields related to crime.
Inside the Mind of a Killer checklist
The checklist was created to guide the crime scene investigation. It helps coordinate between the main motives for committing a crime and how the murderers and investigators think before, during, and after the crime is committed. The main purpose of the stories is to psychologically analyse the criminals’ and the investigators’ thinking processes.
Motives for committing a crime (from the twenty cases)
1.Life insurance benefits (three cases)
2.Crimes of jealousy/love/revenge (four cases)
3.Lies (Living more than one life/love stories/married to a liar) (four cases)
4.Disturbed psychopath (three cases)
5.Law manipulations/child custody and divorce (one case)
6.Mental illness (four cases)
7.Poor areas are associated with theft, gangs, drugs, alcohol, and murder (one case)
Basic points
•How the police caught the murderer.
•What was the murder weapon?
•How the murderer tried to cover up the crime.
•How the murder was committed.
•What increased suspicion after the murder?
•Where the killer disposed of the body.
•How the body was found.
How the police caught the murderer
•Laptop and phone history (some companies retrieve erased messages).
•Tips given to the police by anonymous callers: someone who overhears or is informed by the murderer, someone who knows the murderer or someone who witnessed the crime scene.
•During an attempted robbery cover-up for murder, the wallet, money, jewels, and expensive items were not stolen and the money remained to indicate the murder intentions. What looked like a robbery to the police could not have been as the motive had been eliminated.
•Tracing the weapon (through finding the shop where the weapon was purchased or the weapon itself).
•During an attempted suicide, internet browser history, social media –Facebook, Instagram, etc.– is usually checked). The killer searches for methods to kill (medication, weapons, and different methods to make it seem like suicide death)/suicide notes written on computer (not handwritten) are suspicious.
•Surveillance cameras in supermarkets, ATM usage, domicile, roads and surrounding areas.
•The murderer running out of petrol or trouble with the car during, or after a murder.
•The killer has access to the crime scene (key, weapon, area).
•Integration methods.
•Tip-off from someone who either overheard the killer, knows the killer, witnessed the crime, or recognised the murder sketch from news bulletins.
•Taking victim’s saliva and DNA without them volunteering; from meals at restaurants
