Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Solomon says in Proverbs 30:18–19 (AMPC):
There are three things which are too wonderful for me, yes, four which I do not understand: The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent upon a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man with a maid.
The three things Solomon says are too wonderful for him are the way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent on a rock; and the way of a ship in the midst of the sea. The four things he does not understand are:
1.The way of an eagle in the air
2.The way of a serpent upon a rock
3.The way of a ship in the midst of the sea
4.The way of a man with a maid
In this book we will look at these four ways to life. Each, when adopted, will produce blessing and a significant increase in your quality of life.
METAPHORS
I will begin with the metaphoric translation of these ways to life. Firstly, understand that these metaphors are very broad. Secondly, when we work with the scriptural translation, which is line upon line and precept upon precept (Isaiah 28:9–13), we are working with the first mention metaphor. Note this section is just an introduction. We will develop these metaphors later in this book.
1. The Way of an Eagle in the Air represents the saint in victory. That’s why Solomon couldn’t understand it—because it was coming in the future.
2. The Way of a Serpent on a Rock is Christ’s triumph over Satan. The serpent (the devil and the demonic system) is under the foot of Jesus, and ultimately under our feet.
Revelation 12:7–9
And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Luke 10:17
And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
3. The Way of a Ship in the Midst of the Sea is the church in the world. We are in the world, but we are not of the world. We are citizens of the Kingdom of God and are not subject to the world system (John 17:14–16).
4. The Way of a Man with a Maid is Christ and His bride. Ephesians 5:25 and 32 says:
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her. This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church [his bride].
In Revelation 21, the Bible talks about the bride making herself ready. We are the bride of Christ. Christ is the bridegroom. There are many, many types and shadows in the Old Testament that reveal the first miracle Jesus performed, according to the Gospel of John, is a miracle at a wedding feast where a man was marrying a maid. They were both nameless because that event is nameless and timeless and filled with metaphoric position.
DISAPPEARANCES
The ways of the eagle, serpent, and ship are observable up to a point. Then they become untraceable, as is the case with the emotions of a man with a maid. The eagle soars rapidly to such a height he seemingly disappears in the sky. This demonstrates what one can attain in life. We should reach for the highest peaks. The serpent disappears on the rock because it is so well camouflaged in its environment. The rock gives it a sense of anonymity. We should operate in a quiet manner. The ship disappears from sight on the ocean as it navigates toward the horizon. We should use our environment to travel far. The man with a maid will be so engrossed and engulfed by love and emotion his life will disappear into the heart of the maid.
PATHS
The way of the eagle in its path is that the eagle leaves no scent or footprint as it takes to the air. As you use your gifts and develop your skills never let the enemy see you coming. Do not reveal your strategy irresponsibly. The serpent in its path on the sand can be tracked. But when it is on a rock, it leaves no clues of its presence. Choose your environment and your path wisely. Choose a rock that is secure. The ship in its path in the midst of the sea cuts a furrow and briefly leaves a wake as it passes through the sea. However, the ever-undulating blanket of water quickly erases the ship’s path. Do not be intimidated by big unknowns. Choose your path and navigate through the treacherous waters. The man in his path of loving a maid leaves no visible trace of his emotion. It cannot be measured. It is felt and not seen. Direct your passion and focus. Manage your energy for the things you love.
RELATIONSHIPS
According to research, an eagle can spot a rabbit two miles (3.2 kilometers) away. So, the relationship of the eagle with the air is VISION: THE HIGHER YOU GO, THE FARTHER YOU CAN SEE. If I am low, even though I have good eyesight, all I
