About this ebook
No one writes suspense like Heather Graham! Read this brand–new romantic thriller by one of today's most popular authors...
There's a pub in New York City that's been in the Finnegan family for generations. Now Kieran and her three brothers own it. Kieran Finnegan is also, as it happens, a criminal psychologist–a fitting reaction, perhaps, to her less–than–lawful teenage past.
Meanwhile, New York's Diamond District has been hit by a rash of thefts. No one's been killed–until now. FBI agent Craig Frasier is brought in to investigate; he and Kieran meet at a jewellery store in the middle of a heist. She's there to “unsteal” a flawless stone taken by her light–fingered youngest brother as an act of vengeance. Craig's there to stop the gang.
But the police and FBI begin to wonder if there are two gangs of diamond thieves, the original and a copycat group of killers–who seem to think their scheme is as flawless as the stones they steal.
Thrown together by circumstance, drawn together by attraction, Kieran and Craig are both assigned to the case. But to Kieran's horror, there's more and more evidence that, somehow, the pub is involved. Because everyone goes to Finnegan's…

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5In what is apparently the first book in a series (New York Confidential), Graham introduces Kieran Finnegan, forensic psychologist and occasional bartender at her family's Irish pub.Attempting to do a huge favor for her youngest brother and their mutual friend, Kieran finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time and is caught up in a jewel heist. A daring last-minute rescue by a hunky FBI agent sets the stage for this romance / suspense blend as Kieran's involvement makes her a target. There's nothing really **wrong** with this novel -- Graham keeps things moving nicely and the mystery that unravels of not one, but two gangs of diamond thieves, is satisfyingly spun out. But the circumstances that send her to the jewelry store in the first place are pretty far-fetched, the romance is predictable from moment the two main characters meet, and the notion of the two gangs seems wildly unlikely. But I probably would have rated it three stars (okay but not terrific) except ... well, it's a huge spoiler. There's no way I can ignore it as a reviewer, and no way to finesse around it. So if you don't want the mystery "spoiled", stop reading now -- because the Reviewer's Code (Don't Spill the Beans) just went out the window.* * * * SPOILER * * * * *Okay. Our heroine is in the jewelry store, talking to a clerk. The bad guys come in, demanding the goods. The store's owner and a woman customer emerge from a private showing room. That makes four people, if I'm counting right. Keep that in mind. The robbers have Kieran scoop up the diamonds and take her as a hostage. And as they leave the store ... page 45 ... one gunman "fired a shot as they walked; she felt the pistol's kick shoot through her via his grip on her arm. The sound was deafening." Page 48, the FBI, having been tipped there's a robbery in progress, shows up and one tells the other "I'm inside. Two people in here, both okay." (Wait a minute -- weren't there FOUR people in there, before one was taken hostage?)Proceed now to the getaway van and the rescue, and then on page 51, as the dust is beginning to settle, one of the in-custody crooks protests "We don't kill people. We're thieves. We don't even use real guns." And sure enough, they are all armed with water pistols. There are, it seems, TWO gangs of diamond thieves -- one of which is armed with fake guns and has never harmed anyone, and one that uses real guns, real bullets, and makes real people real dead. And even though this seemed wildly improbable, I kept reading, trying to figure out what had happened to that suddenly-missing robbery victim and whether her disappearance had anything to do with the "water pistol" that could fire a shot and create a recoil.Never explained. Never referenced again. Apparently just a total blooper. Did the writer forget where she was going with that scene? Didn't ANYBODY during the editing cycle see this?Hey, guys, if I'm going to invest eight bucks and a couple days worth of reading time in your product, the least you can do is to TRY to get it right.I don't think I'll be back for subsequent installments.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This was a very difficult book to get through. Romance? Thriller? I don't think it is really either. It wasn't thrilling and the romance was so generic. I thought if I could just get to the end, it would pick up, but sadly, no. What should have been a quick 2 day read turned into 2 weeks of drudgery. Using this book for the "suspense/thriller" category for my summer reading bingo because it was marketed as such and I need to fill that space.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It's been a long time since I've read anything by this author that hasn't been paranormal. I love her writing either way. This book revolves around a family running an Irish pub and a diamond heist. It was well written and typical for Ms. Graham, meaning that there was plenty of action, mystery, and a bit of romance. Hopefully there will be more about this family. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Flawless by Heather Graham is a 2016 MIRA publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. Is it just me, or does it seem like it’s been a really long while since Heather Graham has released a standard romantic suspense novel? Since I’ve begun to shift away from the PNR genre, I have lost touch with this author, so I’m happy to see she is starting a new series which focuses more on traditional mystery and suspense. Immediately, I was sucked into the setting of the family owned Irish pub in New York City. The Finnegan clan has gone through some tough times, but Kieran has just begun her first job as a criminal psychologist, while still helping out in the pub from time to time. Her brothers, who have colorful past, are separating themselves from their previous criminal activities in favor of earning an honest living, or at least we hope they are. However, in the name of honor, one of her brothers and her best friend, Julie, pull a risky and illegal move that forces Kieran to right their wrong, which plunges her headlong into the dangerous world of diamond heists. This is a very unique story with a equal balance of action, mystery, suspense, and romance. I really liked the big Irish family and how they work together and stick together. I also thought the intrigue was well plotted with a few very surprising twists along the way. The only weak spot for me was with the romance, which seemed forced, without a lot of build-up, and no emotional connection. The secrets Kieran keeps even after all is said and done left me feeling like there was a loose end that needed to be tied. Other than that, the story is solid and fast paced, with well-developed characters, and great supporting cast, that I hope will get their own story someday.. maybe Danny and Julie? Heather Graham is an experienced author who writes across many romantic sub-genres, but for me her historical romances and her romantic suspense series are where she really shines. This book is a fine example of that. Recommended for fans of romantic suspense and mystery/thriller readers. 4 stars
