According to Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, the seven year itch refers to the desire for new sexual experience that is thought to be felt after about seven years of marriage. It can also mean a supposed tendency to infidelity after about seven years of marriage. The National Divorce rate increased. States with high divorce rates generally had short median duration to divorce, and vice versa.
According to the US Department of Commerce, Economics, and Statistics Administration, US CENSUS BUREAU; Numbers, Timing, and Duration of Marriages and Divorces, 2009 Household Economic Studies, the duration of terminated marriages and median time to remarriage following divorce indicated that first marriages which ended in divorce lasted a median of 8 years for men and women overall. The median time from marriage to separation was shorter-about seven years. The median duration of time between the divorce from a first marriage and a second marriage was four years. It is suffice to note that the median duration of second marriages that ended in divorce did not differ from that for first marriages. See Table 8 of the Report.

What causes the seven year itch in a woman?

Poor sexual performance by the husband. Most men are unable to sexually satisfy their partners leaving them with an insatiable urge for sex.
