Prologue
When you look up at the moon you can’t see them, but they are there. They reside near the northern hemisphere not far from the smooth volcanic plains of a place called the Sea of Tranquility. It is not a ‘sea’ as we earthlings know, but rather a smooth, dark-colored area on the moon, consisting mainly of moon rock and moon dust, and dotted with craters. Off a short distance, there are mountainous peaks sprinkled with caves. This is where they live.
They are whimsical creatures that look like some of our earthly animals. They have not left the moon since their arrival nor have they ever seen any other life forms. They are peaceful by nature and live in tranquility and harmony. They honor themselves by living with integrity… it is their guiding force. Kindness, honesty, pride, loyalty, respect, patience, thankfulness, and manners are the virtues they extol. They have formed a life circle of goodness and love and because of this their hearts sing a beautiful melody, a soft rhythm that vibrates within each of them. It is their heart tune.
They are the Moonimals… the champions of integrity! This is their story! Enjoy!
Chapter I
In 1959 a massive meteor storm impacted a small asteroid that made its home a few hundred miles from the earth’s moon. As the asteroid was blown apart, its fragments were hurled through space in all directions. A group of creatures, who lived on the doomed asteroid, huddled together on a large jagged piece of the debris in hopes they would somehow be spared from an untimely end.
Small remnants of the now defunct asteroid careened past the horrified creatures at great speed, not always avoiding impact with the piece of rock they clung to as they were catapulted through space. The reluctant travelers were being violently tossed around as each rocky blow caused them to plummet more and more erratically through the eerie darkness of the cosmos… their only light source emanating from the perfect diamond-like stars that sparkled in the sky.
Hope for survival was becoming increasingly doubtful as the flying debris field seemed to be growing faster than ever. The momentum of their disintegrating planetoid increased rapidly with each passing moment, causing terror to grip the stunned passengers. The space creatures were clinging to each other with a determination they had never known, fear and anxiety steadily on the rise within each them.
In the flash of an instant a sphere-shaped spacecraft with protruding antennae materialized next to their fragmented rock as it spiraled out of control!
Not knowing what fate awaited them, and realizing the mass they were hanging to was breaking up, the terrified creatures summoned their courage, signaled to one another to grab hold, and jumped onto the passing craft.
Within moments the odd looking spacecraft crashed onto a celestial body sending the panic-stricken critters tumbling every which way. They watched in horror as a large piece of debris slammed into the asteroid they had just abandoned and split it into countless specks that were strewn across the universe. If not for their state of shock, it would have been a truly magnificent sight!
Somewhere between the Sea of Tranquility and the Sea of Serenity, located in the northern hemisphere of an unfamiliar planet, this group of unusual creatures had been forcefully tossed onto the dust laden surface of the earth’s moon. They had been spared the uncertainty of being jettisoned into the blackness of outer space.
Shaken and badly bruised, the disorientated critters quickly scurried to reach each other and huddled together tightly as they tried to digest the overwhelming consequences of the catastrophic event they had just experienced.
MoonDreamer, their leader, was first to pick himself up and do a quick surveillance of the area. He scanned this odd looking terrestrial place, while at the same time he checked to see if his companions made it through the traumatic event in one piece. He wondered if they were truly safe.
He observed MoonDust helping MoonQuake remove something
