About this ebook

Savvy criminal turned skilled Leviathan pilot Zara Cole finds new friends and clashes with bitter enemies in the second book of this action-packed series from New York Times bestselling authors Rachel Caine and Ann Aguirre that’s perfect for fans of The 100 and The Fifth Wave.

Zara Cole was a thief back on Earth, but she’s been recently upgraded to intergalactic fugitive. On the run after a bloody battle in a covert war that she never expected to be fighting, Zara, her co-pilot Beatriz, and their Leviathan ship Nadim barely escaped the carnage with their lives.

Now Zara and her crew of Honors need a safe haven, far from the creatures who want to annihilate them. But they’ll have to settle for the Sliver: a wild, dangerous warren of alien criminals. The secrets of the Sliver may have the power to turn the tide of the war they left behind—but in the wrong direction.

Soon Zara will have to make a choice: run from the ultimate evil—or stand and fight.

At the end of book one, Zara, Bea, and Nadim had hooked up with another leviathan, his crew, and a few honors that they had rescued. This rag tag group had suffered plenty with the attack from the Phage and they desperately needed to get to a place where they could refill, reload, and the leviathans could recharge. Only issue was that they were in the middle of nowhere and getting where they could safely meet their needs was not in the cards. Desperate times and all that, the gang had to make a hard choice and they decided that they would head for the Sliver, an outlaw post of sorts where anything goes, and they would have to take their chances there.A huge portion of this story took place on the Sliver, which was actually a pretty darn cool place filled with aliens of all types and where anything could be found, bought, or bartered for, but it was also a place that was quite dangerous. For Zara it was like coming home. The desperate need for supplies and to recharge the leviathans led the crew to take on a mission that would have catastrophic results and would put them in a position where hard choices would need to be made. Also, a surprising turn of events would shed light on a mystery that had been without an answer for a very long time but it would take Zara facing her deepest fear to unlock the situation’s potential. With Nadim being a living ship (yes, I know that is hard to wrap the brain around) the relationship that was evolving between him and Zara was unusual and, in this book, became something so sweet and endearing. I just found myself loving it! I also enjoyed the camaraderie that developed between the rest of the characters. I really felt that they were melding into something greater than a few stragglers thrown together in a dire situation. In addition, there was a slow burn F/F relationship developing and a bit of something that included Nadim. Though, all of that is still progressing with no clear outcome as of yet.Zara, Zara, Zara, she seems to make a ton of choices for everyone in this story and I wish that there had been more input from the other characters. They are all intelligent beings but she seems to have all the answers, just wish there was more there. I did love that there was a heist in this story, that was an amazing portion of this book. Another spectacular piece to this story were the alien species included. How utterly creative are these authors??! I loved it all!! Overall, Honor Bound was a fun and entertaining book that has me eagerly anticipating what comes next.

This was just ... great science fiction, great worldbuilding, great characters, great story, incredibly interesting aliens ... Gush, gush, gush ...Ever have one of those books that it's very hard to review because it was pretty perfect? I had preordered this because fell in love with the first book in series and it did not disappoint (or read like a collaboration). It's also hard to review without spoilers as more of the politics and aliens and history and worldbuilding is revealed as story unfolds. Some new and some just surprising at how deep some things went. Very little purely good or evil. Doesn't end on a cliffhanger but clearly more is ahead.Boy is this a suck-y review -- but this series is really getting good.
