I became interested in puppets many years ago when involved in a teen’s ministry at my church. We had a group of young people doing puppets as a part of that ministry. A few years later, I decided to buy my own set of biblical puppets and to write my own scripts. That began a new puppet ministry at our new church and a growing repertoire of humorous stories. With the internet and online opportunities, I hope to reach out to more and more people with these stories and parables and encourage people with the messages they contain.

NARRATOR: The gospel of Luke has many parables about sinners, repentance, and God's forgiveness. One of the most beloved parables is the story of the prodigal son – a young man who makes some very selfish choices and really loses his way. Let's listen as our prodigal gets some helpful advice from a very surprising source.
***Song: Lullaby and Goodnight***
(Prodigal and pig sleeping in middle of stage for 15-20 seconds. A rooster crows. They awake slowly and see each other.)
PIG AND PRODIGAL: Augggggggg!!!
(Pig begins to exit hurriedly)
PRODIGAL: No, no, wait! Wait! (Pause) Who are you?
PIG: I-I-I'm the one who should be asking you that. (Approaches cautiously). I snuck into my space while everyone else was asleep. I didn't know my bachelor pad had a new occupant.
PRODIGAL: (Looking around at pigpen) This is your bachelor pad?
PIG: That’s what I like to call it. All the comforts of home - squishy mud, rotting veggies, my own personal pig slop. Mmm, mmm, mmm, there’s no place like home. (Snort, snort) But I don’t remember advertising for a roommate.
PRODIGAL: Oh, yeah, ha-ha, well, ah...
PIG: Yeah, ha-ha, well, what? Last time I checked, humans weren’t living in pigpens.
PRODIGAL: (Depressed) It’s a long story.
PIG: Great! I love epics! Tragedy! Mystery! Romance! (Swoons)
PRODIGAL: Well, I really shouldn’t be lying around on the job.
PIG: What do you mean, lying around on the job? What job?
PRODIGAL: The farmer hired me to feed and look after you.
PIG: This is unbelievable! I’ve always wanted my own personal butler!
PRODIGAL: Not just you! I’m supposed to take care of all the pigs on the farm. To tell you the truth, it was the only job I could find - believe me, it wasn’t my first choice - no offense.
PIG: None taken. (Pause) So, give me the abridged version of your story, and I’ll keep a lookout. (Puts hand on forehead, looking left and right).
PRODIGAL: (Looks around) Well, I’m not from around here.
PIG: I guessed that much.
***Suggested song: Don’t Fence Me In***
PRODIGAL: My real home is far away from here. Dad owns quite a lot of land, all kinds of animals, dozens of servants, huge house …
PIG: Hmmm - sounds like a real dump.
PRODIGAL: Everything anyone could ever need or want.
PIG: Uh-huh.
PRODIGAL: Everything, that is, except freedom - after a while, I got restless. I wanted to experience the world and all it had to offer, away from my father and brother, family rules and responsibilities. So, I asked Dad for my share of the family inheritance and I left.
PIG: Well, I can certainly see how the attraction of this pigpen would be too much for the average person to resist.
(Prodigal looks at pig and shakes head)
PRODIGAL: I wasn’t supposed to end up here!
PIG: You weren’t?
PRODIGAL: (annoyed) Of course not! When I left home, I had beautiful clothes, a horse to ride, and a big sackful of money. The day I left my dad’s property, I was on top of the world, and I never looked back!
PIG: Good boy!
PRODIGAL: (not paying attention to pig – sadly) I think Dad was standing in the doorway watching me, hoping I’d change my mind and come back. He didn’t call my name, but he
