The wooden cot was uncomfortable. It was by far the worst place he had slept since stepping inside Sparrow’s Corner. The hay stuck him in places he couldn’t stand. But it was better than sleeping on the hard forest floor. He welcomed the warmth of the hearth; it brought relief from the winter wind seeping into the fall weather.
