    Chapter One

Franciscan Father Declan O’Shea eased a pair of half-melted Kerrygold butter pats into his coffee mug, doused them with heavy cream, and offered a sympathetic prayer for those unfortunate souls suffering from lactose intolerance. He stirred the butter and cream into the richly aromatic coffee, relishing the clinking peal the spoon made on the white ceramic mug.

He praised Brigid of Kildare, patron saint of dairymaids and cattle, and all the Irish cows that produced such sweet nectar to temper the beatific bitterness of Ethiopian Arabica beans.
