About this ebook
“Change” is one of the most comforting words to say and one of the hardest words to do. We typically think people do not change because a lack of willpower, and we go straight to the will to validate our perspective on why this is the case. The will is a powerful thing, but there are two other dynamics that are associated with the will that make up our soul. Does change happen because of our will, or do our thoughts and our emotions play a role?
Change can be difficult because, just like the children of Israel, there were things from their past that were holding them back to the land they wanted to leave. Their souls started to talk to them through their legitimate needs—their hunger. Change can be difficult for us as well. Every time that we attempt to change, there is something that pulls us backward. I believe God wants to bring awareness of past hurts and traumas so that we can process them and bring them to the light so that change can happen and the past cannot attempt to pull us back any longer.

Change
is one of the most comforting words to say and one of the hardest words to do. We typically think people do not change because a person is weak, and we go straight to the will to validate our perspective on why this is the case. The will is a powerful thing, but there are two other dynamics that are associated with the will that make up our soul. Does change happen because of our will, or do our thoughts and our emotions play a role?
The children of Israel found themselves in a land of destruction and pain. They called out to God to save them, and God heard their cries and sent Moses to usher them out of that land and into a territory that God proclaimed for them. The story of Exodus declares their excitement to leave this current region for their promised land.
Later in the story, the children had formed a revolt against the leaders and started to complain to them about their situation. They were upset with the meal selection during their trip, and their stomachs began to talk to them, as did their souls, to the point that the children considered going back to the land they had just left. At that moment, Scripture indicates that they took more than material with them when they left: The children ended up taking the territory with them. They took it in their hearts.
You see, this is us. You have been through a lot. I do not know your story, and I am not trying to indicate that I do. We want a fresh start where we can excel in life, and that is a possibility. Even though we have left things, people, and situations behind us, did we take them with us in our hearts and in our souls when we left? Could it be that the reason why change is so difficult is because our past is trying to pull us back?
Change can be difficult because, just like the children of Israel, there were things from their past that were holding them back to
