About this ebook

Wes Rockville, a disgraced law-enforcement agent, gets one last chance to prove himself and save his career when he's reassigned to a 232-year-old secret government organization.

The Witches Protection Program.

His first assignment: uncover a billion-dollar cosmetics company's diabolical plan to use witchcraft for global domination, while protecting its heiress Morgan Pendragon from her aunt's evil deeds. Reluctantly paired with veteran witch protector, Alastair Verne, Wes must learn to believe in witches…and believe in himself.

Filled with adventure and suspense, Michael Okon creates a rousing, tongue-in-cheek alternate reality where witches cast spells and wreak havoc in modern-day New York City.

At times zany, at others edgy, this is a fun, fast, paranormal read with nice twists, good chemistry between Wes and Morgan. Definitely a good suggestion for libraries where paranormal is popular.

Once upon a time, there were Willas and Davinas...two rival witch factions with different intentions for their crafts at heart. The Willas were all about helping others, and causing no harm; the Davinas were more focused on self achievement, and power. Think Salem Witch Trials...the more earthy, foul looking the witch....Willa! The more put together, yet magically touched accuser/witness...Davina! Of course, we all know where THAT fiasco led...but place it in modern day, and it doesn't seem to fly as well. Good thing they changed with the times, or maybe not, because the bigger and badder the witch, the more powerful and ambitious they grew, and that made keeping them down THAT much harder. It's easier to hide in plain sight than you might think, but then again...they don't plan on hiding for that much longer...at least not all of them. Thing is...no matter the sect, there's always going to be those that just don't want to go with the flow...WITH GOOD REASON...and in this story, it just goes to show you that you can't keep a good witch down!

Overall, I enjoyed the story, the twists and turns, the unexpected allies and the uber-evil adversaries that would stop at nothing to get what they wanted. Though I wasn't a fan of Mr. Rockville...he was too cynical for my taste...I was feeling his awakening to the magic that surrounded him. At story's end, we were left with promising room for additional releases, allowing us that chance to get to know everyone (that's left!) and their diabolical plans (or not). My only real critique would be a wish for more time to go in-depth or more deeply detailed in a few areas.

ya-only-means-no-gratuitous-erotica, urban-fantasy, paranormal, law-enforcement, situational-humor, nyc, action, verbal-humor *****Prime Directive: Protect the Witches. That's the reason for the arm of NYPD known as The Witches Protection Program/Defenders of the Craft. It's a law enforcement branch nearly as old as the country and its newest member is of a family long involved, an unbeliever who is sure that it's all a big joke, and dyslexic. Great fun! Loved it!I requested and received a free ebook copy from WordFire Press via NetGalley.

Witches Protection Program has a decent story concept, and the overall story was mostly a moderately fun read. The book suffers from a number of issues that prevent it from being a great read, such as: * a few strong and supposedly smart personalities that oddly but consistently degenerate into simplistic screaming childishness when upset (especially later in the story); * a main romantic relationship that basically springs into place out of nowhere; and * a frequently recurring problem with basic scene continuity and causality: a snake the size of a huge suspension bridge cable that slithers up a man's pantleg, a gun that materializes very much out of nowhere without comment, a lasso that snares securely one moment and is trivially slipped out of the next, etc. This was frequent and significant enough to be moderately frustrating up to about 70% through the book, at which point the action started to ramp up and these speedbumps got a lot worse.Overall, the story feels like an average high school student's first draft of a good plot idea that could evolve into a solidly good story after some serious refinement, specifically a lot more care toward thinking through scene continuity, character development, and action detail.

Witch's cats and broomsticks, spells and potions, toads and kisses, and glowing goo. Witches protection program is a fun little read about the divisions of witches and the mortals that"mind" them. Just when the plot starts to get predictable, he throws in a twist you aren't expecting to keep it interesting.
