The first act that Marquis and Imani danced together before leaving for Tokyo was like slipping into the oldest, softest, most well-worn parts of themselves. They shift into autopilot, being more lively than ever.

There’s no pressure and the audience loves them, so Imani steps into Marquis’s arms and flies, smiling at him like a woman who can’t help herself. He smiles back, and she gets it: he’s just as elated as her and just be themselves. There’s nothing else left to be.

On their last night before heading to Tokyo, their sponsors organized a show. Its 2 AM and they’re leaving around 8 in the morning. Imani’s drunk as she’s been in years while Marquis’ leaving with his girlfriend Raven. She’s drunk too, tripping over him. Marquis catches her and she bends over.

Now, it’s my turn to shake, Raven slurs. But—I have to go to the bathroom first—baby."

Raven leaves and Imani seizes on the opportunity.
