We all come from a broken family. Even if you came from a Christian home, your parents were still broken. We’re all broken because we all come from the first broken family—Adam and Eve.
We all have biological DNA and genetic characteristics that come from Adam and Eve. We also inherited spiritual DNA from them. I’m going to share with you the three results of the Fall.
Before the Fall, every person on Earth was in a perfect relationship with God and each other. But only a few verses later in the book of Genesis, everyone on Earth was in a broken relationship with God and each other.
Genesis 3:1 says,
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?
To get someone to sin, the first thing Satan did was cast doubt on the Word of God.
Genesis 3:2–6 goes on to say,
And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’"
Then the serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
Adam was with Eve while the devil was talking to her, but he never did anything about it. The Fall of mankind cannot be fully blamed on a female. Both man and woman sinned against God.
There are three things Eve saw in the fruit. First John 2:16 says there are three things in the world: The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.
The lust of the flesh represents Eve’s eyeing the fruit and seeing it was good for food. The lust of the eyes was Eve’s noticing the fruit was pleasant to look at. And the pride of life was Eve’s belief that the fruit from the tree could make her wise.
Three things entered the world at the Fall that still affect us to this day:
SHAME
Adam and Eve hid from God in shame after they sinned. Genesis 3:7–11 says,
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?"
So he said, I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.
And He said, "Who told you that you were naked?"
Adam had fear because he had shame. No one had to tell him he was naked. Shame immediately entered the world when sin entered. Adam and Eve were hiding from God and each other.
Genesis 3:21 says, For Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.
God made clothes for Adam and Eve from animal skin. He had to shed blood to make coverings for them until His plan to cover mankind forever in Jesus’ blood was complete.
Revelation 3:18 says, "I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed. Gold represents God’s Word. The Bible says His Word is more precious than silver. God is not referring to real clothes but to a spiritual covering for shame. Isaiah 61:10 says,
For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, / He
