Chapter 1: Introduction to CBT
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has gained enormous popularity in recent years as a solution for anxiety, stress, and panic attacks, which largely eliminates the need for medication. Eliminating medication also eliminates the harmful side effects—and even the possibility of developing dependence.
Cognitive therapy concentrates on shifting your beliefs and patterns of thinking that are associated with or trigger stress, anxiety, or panic attacks. With CT, you’re trained to understand that your beliefs produce thoughts, the thoughts produce feelings, then the feelings produce behavior. In simple terms—it’s all in the mind.
You can minimize or even eliminate your stress or anxiety just by changing your perception and thinking patterns—even before the issue at hand has been dealt with. This tells you that it is possible for two people to face the same negative circumstances, wherein one remains calm and peaceful while the other is sinking in worry and anxiety. What makes the difference? It’s their beliefs and thoughts.
