Chapter 1
-Josephine-
It was hot and Josephine started to feel sick. She lifted her head to the sun, making a grimace. The heat was unbearable. She didn’t enjoy much high temperatures, not even in summer. It felt dry and air was heavy. She sat on the border of the swimming pool. What a relief!
. She appreciated the freshness of the playful water, coming in little waves, licking the borders of the pool. The sun was at the highest point in the sky, lashing her back. She dived her legs. Her sun lotion started to dilute, forming a funny coloured oil stain. Recalled to a mini scale oil spill in the sea she saw in the news.
With her legs yet in the water, she reflected on the book she had been reading, while laying on her towel in the shade. Existential crisis at the age of 30? Could be…That’s what the book pointed out
. Or maybe she was just bored and she didn’t even know. Hard to tell the difference! Anyway, that crisis or boredom she felt was there way before her thirties. She felt she missed something, some spice in her life.
And now, what?
, was her question. I have no partner, a job that I don’t enjoy anymore, my friends are no longer available and my family lives far away. Too long time thinking of what’s next, if anything exciting will happen. Ah! I wish I could travel, somewhere far away. Even start a new life, in a new place
. That phantasy had been going on and off in the back of her mind for some time. She traced a plan: after summer she would pack her stuff and relocate to another country. She breathed deeply, feeling better. She needed some novelty in her life.

Chapter 2
- Joseph (Joe)-
It’s been already three days, how does she dare to break up with me? Bah, I will find another one. I will text her when I have met someone. Who does she think she is? I don’t think she will come back. Has she already met somebody else? Maybe it’s better to not to know. I can trust absolutely no one! Ah, let’s stop overthinking and move on…
His mind was spinning.
Joe switched on his laptop.
I don’t like this one, neither that one… I don’t like much the suggestions I have been sent. What criteria do they use to recommend me those profiles? Seriously, I have to quit with this sooner than later.
Oh, there is one that looks nice, beautiful smile! Tan skin, glowing. Hmm…Those big eyes, looks like they are green. I like her smile, looks genuine. Short haired? Ah, the pic is so small I can’t see you very well. I like more long hair women but that short hair definetely looks good on you. Oh! She wrote she doesn’t want to have children! Darling, where have you been?! I am going to send you a message right here, right now…
Hello there! What is a girl like you doing here? Would you like to meet?

Chapter 3
- Taking a leap-
Let’s see what we’ve got in here… Oh, he looks like a foreigner! He looks cute.
-smiled Josephine.
How interesting! He says he is generous. I don’t see that often. I can understand one of the following: It’s true, which is a danger in case he finds a gold digger. It’s false, but he uses that as a claim! Well, I guess that at the end we all have to write something catchy and he came up with that…. Shall I risk? It’s July, my friends are out of town. If I don’t, I am going to spend much time alone this summer. Well, I guess it won’t hurt to give this a chance.
It didn’t take her very long to send her first message to Joe.
"Hi there, Joe!
This week I am a bit busy in the afternoon but next week would be better. Are you free next Thursday?
Josephine
xx"
Just a few minutes later, she got a reply:
"That sounds perfect, let’s catch up on Tuesday to arrange Thursday.
Joe"
"Well, let’s see what happens this time. -she thought.

Chapter 4
- The encounter-
Oh, there she is! She doesn’t look like the pic in the profile! She’s got very long hair now. Ah, earrings are the same though.
-Hey, it was easy to recognize you! How are you doing? – Joe shook hand with her.
They sat in a terrace and started talking. They spoke about what they were doing at that point, their hobbies and their plans for the future. Time went by very quickly. That was a good sign! They felt very comfortable in each other’s presence. After a while and a few drinks, they became a bit flirtatious. Intense eye contact, alongside with other body language became evident. The courtship process was progressing, smoothly and firmly. Anyway, Josephine was chilled because she didn’t have any expectations at all, just having a good time that afternoon. Joe was on the same page. He seemed to be a good guy, working for a charity and that made Josephine’s heart to melt down. Maybe he is someone caring, must be good person.
- she anticipated.
-The only bad thing is that I am here with a scholarship, for a year and I don’t have a permanent job. I will have to return home after that.
That sat Josephine in an alert mode but also tried to comfort him.
-Well, maybe they will extend you or make you permanent. Don’t throw in the towel just yet, it’s too early.
As talking about the human and divine, the night fell. They exchanged their numbers before saying goodbye and they made a promise: they would keep in touch.

Chapter 5
- Summer storm-
Where does he get it’s raining this afternoon? t’s nearly impossible, we have 35 degrees outside!
- thought Josephine. She rang the bell.
-Hey Joe, this is Josephine. Can you please open the door?
-Yes, come in!
Joe lived alone in a small studio in the city centre.
