CHAPTER 1
––––––––
Anastazie screamed very loud. Andel had just had an accident.
Anastazie ran towards the car, trampling upon the bouquet of flowers in the process. That same moment, Morgan stepped out of the house to see what had happened. Aisha followed closely behind. When they saw the car about to go into flames, they joined Anastazie to run towards the car.
Anastazie got to the car and struggled with the driver’s door. She struggled with it, but it wouldn’t budge. Fear filled her. As she tried to force it open again, her hand ran over a sharp edge on the door, and her skin split.
She jerked backward as pain ran through her due to the injury. By then, Morgan was also close by. He helped her stand up and allowed Aisha to hold her while he faced the door. He ran the heels of his shoes through the already broken window glass to clear off any remaining glass, and then he pulled Andel’s body out.
Andel was unconscious, and there was blood flowing out of his head. Morgan lifted Andel unto his shoulders and carried him away from the burning car while Aisha followed closely behind as she held Anastazie in an embrace.
They had hardly gone two meters from the car before the car exploded. They all fell down from the force exerted by the explosion. Morgan managed to get up first.
Ana! Aisha! Are you alright
he asked as he went to where they lay on the ground. Aisha managed to raise her head first.
I’m okay,
she managed to say in between a cough. Then she looked around her for Anastazie. Anastazie moaned and rolled on the ground, not too far from her. Morgan helped Aisha up and went for Andel’s body while Aisha went for Anastazie. They all moved further till they got to the front of the house, far from the burning car and the heat of the burning car.
Anastazie managed to get herself. She had hit her head hard against the ground when she fell. Aisha went in to get enough ice for four people while Andel called an ambulance. After he explained to the call representative how to find them, he cut the call and went to Anastazie. She leaned her aching head against a pillar. He smiled at her.
I feel the wall is too hard. Don’t you think it would be best to lean against me?
he said.
Anastazie, not knowing what had come over her, obliged and leaned her head against his shoulders. It felt just right, and his scent almost pulled her into trances. Soon Aisha returned with the ice packs. When she saw them, she was unsure of whether to disturb them. She chuckled to herself and tapped them on their shoulders.
Here you go, guys,
she said.
Morgan took an ice pack from the tray she held and held it against his head. Anastazie followed suit. She really needed it.
Don’t worry. I’ll take care of Andel,
Aisha said. She didn’t want anything to spoil Morgan’s and Anastazie’s moment.
Aisha placed the ice pack over Andel’s head while she propped him up against a pillar. They were waiting for the ambulance. Morgan put his arm around Anastazie and let her lean against him again.
He had noticed how she had run when he told her that Andel had come. He had never really thought that she and Andel had something. It had seemed unlikely. However, watching her devotion to Andel as she tried to save him from death, he knew for sure that there was something between them.
Could Andel have been the one that hurt her? That was highly likely. From what he had heard, Andel wasn’t that good at keeping long term relationships. Morgan didn’t understand why a girl such as Anastazie would fall for one with such a record as Andel’s. He’d heard the stupid statement, ‘love is blind.’ However, he had hoped Anastazie would be smarter than falling into the trap of love.
And Andel? Andel had never been known to go back to any lady. Morgan could swear that Andel’s purpose of coming to the house was to
