    Daily Reflections

    by Masami Saionji

Not even God can intervene in matters that you yourself have chosen and decided on.

    dr_design

When we have no inner hopes, beliefs, or clear vision for the future, we are easily thrown into a flurry by our immediate circumstances.

    dr_design

Our feelings of guilt and our misplaced sense of duty are intimidating us and tying us in knots.

    dr_design

Just by adding one little extra word, peace-minded people breathe new life into others.

    dr_design

Talent and ability are not acquired through effort. They are a natural part of us, and they blossom when we acknowledge them.

    dr_design

If we expect negative situations to emerge in our lives, it means we are allowing them to happen. If we expect positive things to happen, they will indeed happen.

    dr_design

When we rebel against our inherent divinity we are propelling ourselves into dire circumstances.

    Transforming Experience into Light

    by Rika Saionji

    Year of the dragon

The year 2012 is now upon us—the year of the dragon. Since I was also born in the year of the dragon, my heart is filled with hopes for making this year a special one.

In November of last year, the king and queen of Bhutan visited Japan. The king’s refinement and grace instantly sparked an interest in all things Bhutan. When I saw the king and queen on television, I, too, was glued to my seat, unable to take my eyes off them as I listened to their words.

During the visit, the king said something interesting about dragons, something which left a deep impression in my mind. He said it while paying a visit to children in the area struck by the earthquake and tsunami. The king was asked by the children whether he had ever seen a dragon. He said that he had—that a dragon signified experience. All of us have a dragon living inside our heart, and it grows by eating experiences. This, he said, is how we grow stronger day by day. No matter what kinds of experiences we have, all our experiences make us stronger. Finally, the king added: Let us bring up our ‘inner dragons’ with great vigor. The children listened with earnest faces to each and every one of the king’s words.

    The ability to experience

For me, the year 2011 was filled with all kinds of incidents, encounters, and experiences. There were painful experiences, sad experiences, and experiences of deep prayer. All of them made me stronger, and in the end, I feel, they were experiences that drew love forth from inside me. In thinking about this, I deeply feel that every experience we have in this physical lifetime, whatever it may be, is an experience to be truly grateful for. Unpleasant things quickly emerge and fade
