Love and Life Through The Eyes of Travel - Mawuli K Hormeku
Information
Biography
Mawuli grew up in the Nehemiah Homes in Brownsville, Brooklyn. The neighborhood was known for broken homes and broken families, but Mawuli had the powerful example of his parents: growing up in a two-parent household, he was blessed to witness unconditional love.
Mawuli is a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Arts in Education from Boston College. He also holds a Master of Arts in Educational Policy and Social Analysis (formerly the Sociology and Education Department) from Columbia University’s Teachers College, where Dr. Ruth, the world-renowned sex expert, also received her degree. He has traveled the world extensively, and, through his travels, he has lived and loved. His relationships, as well as his parents’ forty years of commitment in marriage, set the precedent for Love and Life Through the Eyes of Travel. We all want an amazing, sexy, satisfying, supportive, and romantic relationship. Throughout his travels, Mawuli sets out to find this type of relationship. On his journey, Mawuli details the importance of healing from past relationships before beginning a new relationship; shows how you must learn about yourself and love yourself first before loving others; and reinforces the idea that every relationship serves as a reflection of who you are, what you value, and how you want to be treated.
Acknowledgements
I would like to thank God for the many blessings he has bestowed upon me and my family. Thank you to my loving mother, Gloria, and to my best friend, my father Kofi. You guys have taught me what true unconditional love is. To all my lovers and friends, thank you for all your help in making this book become reality. Carol-Lyn, thank you for everything, but most of all, thank you for being you: You truly are a blessing to me in many ways. My Angel here on earth! With extreme gratitude to all my intimate partners and teachers who have showered my life with their love, devotion, and wisdom, thank you! You made Love and Life Through The Eyes of Travel possible.
Preface
In May 2010, I was featured in Essence magazine, discussing what I wanted in a potential mate. I took several courses with experts at Columbia University. I traveled the world, visiting approximately fifty countries, exploring cultures, and searching for what makes relationships strong. I constantly reflect upon my parents’ loving situation. With these things in mind, I decided to share my experiences of love and travel. Love is the will to take chances; it’s bigger than you and your counterpart. Most of us are too blind to see who we truly are at our core, which makes it even more difficult to see who actually adds value to our lives. So, embrace love, take it by the hand, and let it take you not only to a place of happiness but everlasting fulfillment.
Introduction
Please note that the stories and life lessons within this book are therapeutic adaptations of real-life situations that transformed me into the lover I am now. If being a hopeless romantic makes me weak, then I am cripple. I refuse to walk in the belief that true love and romance do not exist. Ladies and Gentlemen, please don’t give up on love and romance. It is out there. You deserve to be swept off your feet. You are entitled to be treated the best you ever have been treated by someone you trust, adore, and admire. Please do not settle. If being a fan of true love makes you weak, then settling will absolutely kill you. Love is based on having faith and hope. Settling is the complete opposite of having faith or hope. In regard to love, romance, and relationships, settling is the complete acceptance of mediocrity. We should all strive to live life to the fullest and love with no limitations.
Let me be trapped in that which sets me free. A captive of love, a prisoner of romance, and a slave to your heart’s desires. Blissful entrapment: this is how you feel when you are with a person whom you don’t ever want to leave. I am a huge fan of love and everything that comes with it. I hope that everyone who reads this gets sentenced to a lifetime of love with a person who truly adores every part of
