About this ebook

Falling in love with my new boss was never the plan.

It just happened.

Cliff was controlling, angry, and extremely unpleasant to be around.

If it wasn't for the fact that he was sexy beyond all else, I would have hated the man.

But there was something else there…

I could sense it.

And when one thing led to another and we found ourselves pleasuring each other in his office.

I knew that this was lust on another level.

And it was a matter of time before that lust turned to love…

But how much was I willing to give?

Falling in love with my new boss was never the plan.

    It just happened.

Cliff was controlling, angry, and extremely unpleasant to be around.

If it wasn’t for the fact that he was sexy beyond all else, I would have hated the man.

But there was something else there...

    I could sense it.

And when one thing led to another and we found ourselves pleasuring each other in his office.

And it was a matter of time before that lust turned to love...

But how much was I willing to give?

    Chapter 1

    Cliff

I stepped off the elevator and took a deep breath. It was a Monday. The worst day of the week for most, but the first day that I finally felt alive after a long weekend of boredom. I loved working. I always have. I loved the challenge of it, the domination of it, proving to myself that I was winning in the game of life. People thought it wasn’t a game... well, they were wrong or they were just too scared to play. That was how I’ve always lived. And it has served me well.

I smiled as I watched the sheep around me scurrying around trying to manage their tasks and make sure they kept the jobs they desperately clung to. I had a great staff and I was very grateful for all of them, but I also paid them very well. That was probably why they worked so hard for me. If they did the same job for any other company they would have made half the money. That was just a given.

I’d always had that drive in my belly, like some kind of a fire that would never be put out. I just wanted to achieve; I wanted to do and get things done. It was more fun than recreation. I didn’t do that well with time off, unless I was doing something very physical. I loved to keep my machine moving. It would rust otherwise. I am not sure how other people try to move as little as possible. Then they wonder why they can’t move how they want when they try. It’s pretty sad.

I walked down the hallway, ignoring all the people who were smiling at me. Most of them were just ass kissers who thought that if they got my favor that somehow I would actually help them move up the ladder. The only way to move up the ladder was to earn it. As opposed to most companies, I did not give out the good jobs, the important jobs to people I liked or people who made me feel good about myself. That was incredibly stupid. No, I gave the jobs to the people who deserved them and would excel at them. That was why my company excelled so much.

My name is Cliffton Jones. Cliff, as everyone knows me. I was thirty-two years old when I met the woman who would change my life. It was really something right out of thin air, or it seemed that way to me anyway.

I was walking into my office when I noticed Margot, my secretary standing there with another woman by her desk. The woman was tall, athletic, slender, but with amazing curves, a beautiful face and a sweet smile. And those eyes...wow, I could get so lost in those eyes. She was incredibly beautiful. That long, flowing auburn hair... the way it rested on her shoulders and the way she carried herself—all of it spoke to me on a deeply profound level and I found that for a moment I was almost nervous. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d been nervous about anything. I practiced a stoic philosophy in life where I removed expectations of outcome from almost everything in my life. This meant I did not get emotional about anything. Nothing was really that bad. When you did this you began to see how little control you actually have over anything and therefore it is useless to get hung up on it.

    What’s going on? I asked.

Hey, Cliff, Margot said with that sweet smile I had come to love. She was the bubbliest person I’d ever seen. It was actually kind of annoying.

    Yeah. What’s up? I asked.

    This is Sadie Blane.

    Hello, Sadie Blane, I said.

She started to say hello and I began walking away. I was very busy and didn’t have time to meet random people first thing in the morning.

Cliff, Margot stopped me. Sadie is taking over for me today. It’s her first day.

I was confused Taking over? I asked.

    Yeah, she replied.

    What do you mean?

She sighed. I told you this the other day, but I didn’t really know until yesterday late and you weren’t around. I couldn’t reach you on the phone either.

What are you talking about, Margot?

I’m quitting, she said. My mother’s taking a turn for the worse. I need to take care of her for a while. I really need to be there.

I’m sorry to hear that, I said. I certainly understand, but this is kind of sudden. I wish you had made me well aware of this.

I know, she said. I’m sorry. But Sadie will be fantastic. She just graduated with her masters degree from Ohio State.

Great, I said. I went to Pitt. I guess we have to hate each other. I smiled to let her know I was kidding, a little bit.

Nice to meet you, I said. Fill her in, Margot. I hate to see you go, but take care of yourself.

    I will. Thanks, Margot replied.

I went into my office. I was a little more than just pissed off that Margot was leaving. She was an amazing secretary. She’d been with me for three years and she knew the company inside and out. Hell, more importantly she knew me inside and out. It was going to take a special
