Introduction
Who I am and Why I Write—It’s All about Family Matters
I am a retired Registered Nurse. I have also been a professional singer and performer. I was born in Chicago, Illinois and lived on the West Side of the city, where I attended Farragut High School. One of my favorite subjects was literature and expressive writing. Poetry has always been my passion. In 2018, I published my first collection of poems titled A Little Book with Big Inspirations. I continue to write and enjoy singing in my church choir. I love traveling and helping others.
This new book is composed of poems and photographs related to family matters
. While I include poems written by some of my children and photographs of them, other family members, and individuals I would come to know over the course of my life—my aim has been to bring together written words and visual records of what family means to me personally.
I chose to write about members of my family because of their life-changing experiences—as they have impacted me and others. I also chose to write about them and include some of their writings in this book because of their openness—knowing that there is no reason to mask or drop my chin...loving them all so very much regardless.
On a larger scale, my desire is that the poems and photos send a message of hope and love to the world. This is why I write—hoping to share my creative expression to the world as ONE loving family. I believe that family matters. Though the poems I’ve written focus on many different topics—that are personally and spiritually based and the photos are mostly visual records of my own family—I believe they represent my responses to loving life in this world.
Because I know my poetic responses to life, as I have experienced it, have many varying answers
—not the same for every topic I write about. Readers of poems I have written may not know in every poem right away where I’m headed with my motive. I’d like readers to go from moment to moment in each poem to think about their own life experiences. If you don’t want to go there because of a negative or hurtful situation—I’d like to shine a little biblical insight on that
