The author is a mountaineer, climber guide, and photographer who has spent more than 45 years climbing in the Himalayas, Africa, The Alps, The Andes and many other places. He has summited 3 peaks above 8000 meter, 3 above 7000 meter and more than 20 above 6000 meter. He guides both mountaineering expeditions and trekking trips. Beeing a keen and capable photographer he always documents his trips in both images and video and have so far published 20 books on climbing, trekking and mountaineering and had all his larger movie projects shown on national television.

    Nayapul

    It is a long trip driving from Kathmandu, but you can actually go by a fast car from the capital of Nepal early in the morning and arrive at Nayapul before noon to start your trek.

    If you want a more relaxed and cultural start to your trip spend, a day driving by a local bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Next day it’s only a short trip to the start of the trek.

    Nayapul is not a place to linger for long. As many small towns along the road it’s not a very pleasant site due to amounts of rubbish strewn all over the place.

    But that is soon over as you wander into the wonderful landscape towards Ulleri and Tikhedunga.

    At the beginning it’s very much a farmed landscape, but the surroundings change as you get further.

    Local porters

    As you walk the trekking route you’ll soon find that you are not alone. Of course there are other trekkers but the locals use these routes and have done so for hundreds of years.

    What we call trekking routes are actually paths that have been used by local merchandisers. Supplies that are not available deeper inside the mountain areas have through centuries been carried on the bag of porters or by the help of mules.
