God is Speaking - Audrey Davis

    Introduction

Have you ever been afraid to listen to the voice of God? Well, I had to listen to his voice several times and I was so afraid. Yes, I was. I know it says in 2 nd Timothy 1:7, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and of sound mind. It’s okay to have some fears but you acknowledge those fears, embrace those fears and then move on. This wasn’t any ordinary fear and I knew it did not come from God. Abraham Maslow once said, We fear our highest possibilities." We are generally afraid to become that which we can glimpse in our most perfect moments, under conditions of great courage. What fears are keeping you from living up to your potential? Who are you allowing to whisper in your ears and tell you that you can’t be what God has called you to be on this earth? Trust God and he will make a way when your enemies don’t understand. Where do I start? We’ll let me tell you my story? In Luke 6:45 it says, A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Not only will I speak the truth but I was the one that had to live it. Life is not easy, and God never promise us that it would be, but he did promise us his son’s sacrifice, a promise that no matter what we faced, no matter what fear may cloud our minds, no matter where we go or how far we wander from his loving arms, we will never be alone.

    Natchez, Mississippi

Iwas born and raised in Natchez, Mississippi. Natchez was the first capital of the state of Mississippi. Jackson is the capital of the State of Mississippi now. Natchez is there is where it all started. I had to learn to forgive and forget and how to stand my grounds because life wasn’t easy for me but God was with me the whole time.

He never left me alone. Natchez was once the first or second largest slave trading port in the United States. It is the oldest settlement on the Mississippi and it has more of the beautiful Antebellum Homes than any other place in the United States.

Many of these historic homes are open for tours. The friendly local people welcome visitors to their historic city with warm Southern charm to tour the homes. Natchez is known for its hospitality State, Grand Village and Natchez Museum of African American history of culture. Another reason Natchez is known is because of historical events that happened a long time ago; one particularly is, the Natchez Massacre (A Great Revolt) in 1729, the Slave Resistance (1719-1861), and the American Revolution 1776.

If you want a taste of what it means to have lived in a time where life was not to be taken for granted, visit the people town of Natchez, Mississippi.

    Natchez The Fight Continues

Natchez, Mississippi’s Roots have come from one of blood sweat and tears. When President Abraham Lincoln Signed the Proclamation in 1863, a war broke out as slaves resisted. Slaves that outnumbered their masters began fighting against cruelties like chopping off limbs, hangings, and mistreatments.

The first African slaves were brought by the French picking on tobacco farms. I don’t know if you remember the movie Amistad?

This is what happened on those ships during revolts that carried slaves. Some of what you see on the movies concerning slaves and the mistreatment of slaves happened right there in Natchez. If you are ever interested in visiting and exploring your roots or similar, Natchez, Mississippi is a place to visit. If you ever wanted to see the old slave plantations, there are many there for you to see. I don’t know if you know this but African men and women were not the only ones at the mercy the French. Indians were victims as well. Cruelty towards young Indian boys caused the Natchez citizens to act.

The Indians talked black slaves into joining their fight against the French and claimed they would give them freedom. It costs many to lose their lives and Indians ended up in chains as well. With so much going on in Natchez; slavery, revolts, and British control, there were fires that broke out as well as a result of the rebellion. Until 1763 Natchez was a part of British West Florida. It became a part of the US in 1817.

We as African Americans know a little about slavery but there are so many details that are overlooked or never discussed. This is why it is important for our children to be taught African American history so that they can know exactly what happened back then. When you think of the British what do you think about? Most people think about Queens and Kings but behind the scenes there was a massive movement ushering in slaves and slavery on ships most of which were funded by Britain.

Can you imagine walking the streets that slaves once walked? Seeing the houses where white masters lived while planting and purchasing slaves to mend their plantations? It is one thing to read about it or see it on television; but it is another thing to actually explore historical facts about slaves, how we got
