THE FINAL ROUND

ACT 1

EXT. HIGHWAY – DAY

A long black limousine speeds effortlessly down an empty four lane road.

INT. SCHOOL HALLWAY – DAY

SUPER: LAKE FOREST COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL. LAKE FOREST, IL.

An immaculate, vacant hallway.

A MAN in a suit walks alone.

A bell rings. Children rush out of the rooms.

JACK and KYLE PATTERSON, ages 8 & 6, wearing identical school jackets, burst out of a classroom chasing one another.

They rush past the man in the suit.

MAN

Jack! Kyle! You two knock it off.

Jack and Kyle laugh as they race down the hall.

EXT. PLAYGROUND – DAY

The doors bust open as a wave of kids barrel rush out. They scatter in various directions.

Jack and Kyle join in on the mayhem.

Several TEACHERS monitor the action.

EXT. HIGHWAY – SAME

The limo continues its course.

A Mercedes Benz drives by.

EXT. PLAYGROUND – SAME

The children are playing different activities.

EXT. HIGHWAY – CONTINUOUS

The road merges into two lanes.

A BMW and then a Bentley pass by.

EXT. PLAYGROUND – CONTINUOUS

Jack and Kyle are waiting for the rope climb. The patches on their jackets read: Lake Forest Country School Panthers.

Suddenly a BULLY cuts in front of Jack and starts climbing the rope. Without hesitating, Kyle grabs the Bully and pulls him off of the rope and down onto the ground.

The other Students laugh and giggle at the Bully as he lies in the dirt. He jumps to his feet and charges Kyle, but Jack steps in and takes the hit.

EXT. SCHOOL DRIVEWAY – CONTINUOUS

Expensive cars line the curbside, while Students wait for their car.

A car drives off and another one moves forward.

EXT. PLAYGROUND – CONTINUOUS

Students gather in a circle.

Yelling and urging on the activity going on inside the circle.

INT. THE CIRCLE

Jack and the Bully are on the ground wrestling.

EXT. PLAYGROUND

TEACHER #1 motions towards the circle.

EXT. SCHOOL DRIVEWAY

The limo pulls into the queue.

INT. THE CIRCLE

Teacher #1 breaks through the circle only to find Jack on top of the Bully; hitting him with his fist.

Jack cocks back. Teacher #1 grabs him and jerks him into the air. The Bully gets up and starts to leave, but he’s quickly snatched up.

EXT. SCHOOL DRIVEWAY

Another car leaves and the limo moves up one spot.

EXT. PLAYGROUND

Teacher #1 scolds Jack and the Bully.

JACK

But he started it!

TEACHER #1

It doesn’t matter. It’s not about who’s right. It’s about doing the right thing.

Jack isn’t listening. Instead he looks over at Kyle and mouths the words, Hi. Low, while pointing a finger up and down.

Kyle gets the signal and smiles playfully.

Suddenly Jack breaks free and lands behind the Bully. Kyle rushes up in front of the Bully and pushes him hard. The Bully flies through the air over Jack.

EXT. SCHOOL DRIVEWAY

The limo is now one car back. The driver honks the horn a couple of times.

A Student gets into the LEAD CAR.

TEACHER #2 looks up and sees the limo. She leaves the curbside to find Jack and Kyle.

INT. THE CIRCLE

Jack gets up and joins Kyle, as they race away.

The Bully stands up and chases after them.

Teacher #1 joins in on the chase.

EXT. SCHOOL DRIVEWAY

The lead car starts to pull away.

EXT. PLAYGROUND

Jack and Kyle are running.

EXT. LIMO

The back door opens.

EXT. PLAYGROUND

Jack and Kyle look over their shoulders.

EXT. LIMO

A foot emerges from the car.

EXT. PLAYGROUND

Turning their attention towards the limo, Jack and Kyle try to stop, but it’s too late.

They both slip and fall.

INTERCUT:

A gun sticks from the back of the limo and a shot is fired.

Teacher #1 gets his and falls backward.

The lead car stalls as it tries to drive away.

A GOON exits the car and grabs Kyle.

END INTERCUT:

EXT. LIMO

Jack rushes the limo, opens the door and jumps in.

INT. LIMO

The Goon is overwhelmed by Jack and Kyle, as together they team up on him.

The limo hits the lead car and everyone flies forward.

EXT. SCHOOL DRIVEWAY

The limo reverses direction.

INT. LIMO

The limo crashes into a car, sending everyone backwards.

The Goon grabs Jack around the throat.

EXT. LIMO

The door opens and Jack is hurled out.

The door closes. The limo jumps the curb and races away.

INT. LIMO

Kyle climbs up the back seat and looks out through the rear window. He watches as everyone scatters about.

Tears swell up in his eyes.

EXT. SCHOOL DRIVEWAY

Among the mayhem, Jack stands stoically still.

ON JACK’S FACE

Tears swell up in his eyes as he watches Kyle disappear.

SLAM CUT TO:

INT. MGM – BOXING RING – NIGHT

SUPER: SEVENTEEN YEARS LATER

A bludgeoned BOXERS face absorbs another punishing hit; sending his face and body in the same direction.

His mouthpiece flies out, as sweat explodes and escalades downward.
