Loving A Brooklyn BadBoy - Talehia Mccants

    Chapter 1

I never thought I would be back on these streets, Britten said to her bodyguard who sat next to her. Looking out the plane’s window, she focused all of her attention on the New York skyline.  The same city that brought her nightmares was the same city that she longed to be in again. There was something about the streets of New York that was addictive. She had called Paris home for a while, but it was finally time for her to come back to her birth place where only the strong survived.

Walking off of her private jet, she spotted her brother Symeir standing by his car. As soon as he saw her, his face lit up with excitement. Walking closer, Britten could see that he was on the phone. Whoever he was on the phone with was talking a mile a minute from what she could hear.

Yeah, she just got off the jet. Romance, man, I’m looking at her right now. Hold on. Hold on. Here she go right now. Symeir passed her the phone. Britten looked at the phone then back at her brother who gave her a shoulder shrug.

Why you didn’t call me when you landed?! Romance screamed through the phone at his sister. He had been worried sick since he’d put her on the jet. He was about 5 minutes away from hopping on the next flight and coming to get her. Britten held the phone away from her ear as Romance went off about her not taking him seriously. Brit rolled her eyes at Symeir who was laughing at her.

I just landed. The engine to the jet didn’t even cool off yet, Roh, so keep calm. I’m okay and did you forget that you hired the Incredible Hulk to escort me here? Britten knew that as soon as she landed her brother was going to be ringing her phone off the hook. But it wasn’t like he didn’t have her riding with a bodyguard.

Britten Carter, you think I care about an engine? You should have called me before they cut the motherfucker off.  Britten, make me drag your ass back home. I would only be too happy. I don’t know why you wanted to return to that dirty ass city for anyway. I have worked my ass off to give you the best. All I ever wanted was for you to get a scholarship and go to one of those Black colleges. Where did I go wrong? Whatever I did, I’m sorry. Just come back. The joke is over. You proved your point. Romance really didn’t want her back in the very city that had tried to take her life multiple times but she had just turned 18 last month and by law she could do what she pleased. He and Harmony tried to raise her the best they could, but it was time that she made it on her own. And if she paid attention to the lessons she was taught, she would be great.

Britten walked to the side of the car and signaled for her bags to be put in the trunk while she sat in the passenger side of the car. Romance was talking a mile a minute about her being safe and not getting into any trouble. After assuring him that she would be okay, he hung up the phone. Britten had to beg her older brother Romance to let her come back to The States. If it wasn’t for this full scholarship that she had gotten from NYU, she would still be in Paris. There wasn’t anything wrong with that life, she just wanted to explore the world a little bit more. She had travelled the world twice over but she was never allowed to step foot into the United States.

Hey, little miss, what is our brother talking about now?  Symeir said, getting in the car with her.

It had only been a while since she had seen her oldest brother and he didn’t look any different. He still had that hustler swag. Well, both of her brothers still had that swag about them but they wore it differently. Romance was more like Jay-Z. He still was street but he was mature. Symeir, on the other hand, not so much. He looked like at any given moment he could be back on the corner hustling. To him, dressing up was buying a new pair of tan Timberlands.

Looking over at his sister, Symeir couldn’t believe how much she had changed. She wasn’t the little girl with pigtails anymore. Her long, thick hair hit the middle of her back. She had golden blonde highlights that complimented her already clay-colored hair. The pre-teen pimples that she had before had gone away, leaving a clear, flawless brown complexion. Just looking at her fully developed body made Symeir want to put a choir robe on her and make her wear it for the rest of her life. Now he could see why Romance had all but put the girl under lock and key. She was trouble waiting to happen.

Nothing. He just being over dramatic, as usual. I had to damn near promise him my first born child for him to let me go to school over here. She laughed at her brother’s overprotective ways.

Well, you know how he can be and you better thank the heavens because the way your apartment is set up is unbelievable. He and Harmony out did themselves, but you will see it when we get there. I know they said they weren’t going to help but they got you this nice little hole in the wall for now. For the rest of the ride they caught up on old times. Symeir and his family had only gone to Paris twice since the others had moved there so there was a lot to catch up on.

Walking into the apartment building, Britten could already tell that only A-List people lived there.  Walking into her apartment, she was stunned. Romance and Harmony had everything laid out for her. The walls were painted gold and trimmed in pink. The fireplace was in the shape of an Indian lamp. They had set it up to reflect her love of Bollywood. The sofa was a pretty shade of pink. Britten couldn’t contain her excitement. She dropped her bags and went running from room to room, screaming at the tops of her lungs. Symeir stood in the doorway with his iPhone and recorded her so he could send it to Romance and Harmony.

I take it that you like what you see, Symeir said, grabbing her and hugging her. Moments like this were what he and his brother had worked hard for. There was a time when they were sleeping on pissy mattresses and stealing food, so to be able to give Britten things like this was a great accomplishment.

I can’t believe Romance and Mo did all of this for me! Most girls have to share a dorm room. But I get my own apartment. I love it! Britten said, in tears.

She had never in her wildest dreams thought she would be where she was. Jumping for joy in her living room, she had almost missed the set of envelopes sitting on the table. Ripping into them, she got the surprise of her life. There was a set of car keys in one and the other held gift cards. At first she thought that they were from Romance until she saw Symeir’s name signed at the bottom.

So are you going to keep reading the card or are you going downstairs and look at your car? Running past him, Britten ran down the stairs, not even taking the elevator. As soon as she got to the front of the house, she got the shock of her life when she saw a red Cadillac ATS with a black interior that was trimmed in red.

Sy-Sy, I can’t believe you did this for me. Thank you so much. Brit turned to Symeir and hugged him. Here she thought that she was going to have to ride MTA until she was able to afford a car. When she left, Romance told her that she was going to have to make it in New York by herself.

When Romance told me all that he was doing for you, of course I had to put my touch on it.  You know your big brothers going to make sure you straight. You don’t have any worries. Just go to school and make us proud. Symeir and Romance had tried to scare her and told her that if she came to New York that they would cut her off money wise and let her starve and work like a normal college student. But when she still wanted to go and live her dreams, they had to reward her for her bravery.

Well thank you, Sy. You two really didn’t have to do anything for me.

Symeir looked at his sister and his heart
