Missing Pets have Animal Rights Groups Alarmed

2 October 2017, Petaling Jaya: Jenny Raj, spokesperson for a group of concerned animal lovers today expressed her concern at the sudden surge of missing pets from households around the city. According to the Police, reports of such incidences began coming in about six months ago. At that time, we thought they were just random incidents. But of late, there appears to be a pattern, said Raj.

Although the pets involved in these missing cases were confined to dogs and cats, pet lovers of all types around the city have been urged to keep their eyes open to suspicious characters or activities which may seem odd.

Local police have assigned a hotline number for members of the public to report any occurrences of theft or cruelty to animals that they may have witnessed in the last several weeks.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Aman Abas, when contacted confirmed that the police are seriously looking into the matter and that the rate of pet disappearances was not only odd but posed a serious threat to the community. When asked whether it could be a series of ritual sacrifices, Abas replied by saying, Let’s not make any speculations at this point. He also cautioned pet owners not to take matters into their own hands by forming vigilante groups as this could be counter-productive to the investigations conducted by the police. However, Abas assured the public that the strange incidences are a priority and that investigations are in progress.

Abas also stressed he couldn’t comment on several mutilated animal corpses found by a lake near Kampung Subang until he received results from forensics.

Anyone with information can contact ASP Aman Abas at Hotline: 061 – 2454 5876.

    Angela Day International Secondary School

It was the last week of school and Amber’s class was abuzz with anticipation. The final term holidays were around the corner. Whether it was a vacation to some exotic location, a road trip, or simply attending a workshop, everyone had their plans. And they all waited with baited breath for the last Friday of the school calendar to come soon.

The mood was so intoxicating that even the teachers at Angela Day felt it. With the school concert, parent meetings and every other mandatory requirement over and done with, it was also time for the teachers to kick up their heels, lighten up and loosen the noose on the students a little. After all, it was the last week of the school year.

But despite the humdrum of cheery resonance, something struck Amber as odd. Amy Ong, Amber’s long and trusted friend from the first grade seemed troubled. Amber had been noticing her behavior for several days now and although Amy tried to hide it, she wasn’t doing a very good job. Amy appeared detached, preferring to be alone and often deep in thought. That was not the Amy she knew.

Thinking it was her only chance to help her friend, Amber carefully approached her. Amy sat alone at the back of her class, oblivious to the brouhaha of disarray and mischief all too often a common situation during this time. The school’s administrators relented with some leeway to the students’ mischievous forays but kept an eye in case things went too far.

Hi Amy! What’s up? That’s all Amber could muster to sound as casual as she could.

Hi Amber, nothing much. Just finding it hard to read with all this noise. Amy was suddenly fixated
