About this ebook

We can use our dreams however we choose: ignore them, let them tell our fortune, or use them

to change our future.

Most dream symbol books currently available concerns our physical senses, that which is

thought of as reality.  Those books are read by people who want to know what their future holds.

Of course our future is based on many factors and people, places, and things that change constantly.

The second type concerns itself with our psychological and emotional feelings, what is thought

of as our minds.  Those books are used by people who believe their bodies are affected by their

minds and want to know how to overcome their emotional and psychological problems.  The third

type concerns our spirit or soul and are used by people who believe they are a soul or spirit

temporarily dwelling within a body which is affected by their mind, mind that directs their

body, and in its turn, is directed by spirit for soul evolution.

Sandman Healer is of the third type.

It is used by the author for her Sandman Healer Workshops.

    WHO REMEMBERS THEIR DREAMS?

WE KNOW THAT DURING the past six millennia all people have shown an interest in their dreams.  People are interested in their own dreams.  Often they are interested in other people's dreams too.  Many hours are spent describing our own dreams to those interested enough to listen.  Many additional hours are spent by millions of people doing what they know to do to interpret those dreams.  The reasons for all that sharing and interpreting are many.  One of the major reasons is simply that it is all great fun, highly interesting__entertaining.

A person’s dreams often come up in general one-on-one or in a group conversation.  It is almost inevitable that someone will say she or he does not dream at all.  When told dreams occur or complete insanity is the alternative, the person will admit to dreaming at some point in the past, but that they are no longer remembered because the dreams were bad, frightening, or in some way generally unpleasant.  Those who know of my interests in dreams generally ask me why.  I tell them they choose not to remember their dreams.  There are others who do like to dream, but also do not seem remember them.  When I asked them to think about why this is the case, they usually can figure out that their lives are over-filled with activities and they are barraged by information in today’s electronic age, causing a mental overload.  Often people do not want to deal with dreams__they only want to sleep.

Dreams are free.  They come spontaneously.  There is no need to make a conscious choice to spend money, to set aside time, to make a special effort.  Dreams do not occur to only some__they happen to everyone who wants them__young, old, poor, rich, people of all colors and races, both sexes, no matter of what sexual practices and persuasions.

WHY DO SOME PEOPLE REFUSE TO REMEMBER THEIR DREAMS?

Any need we have to feel we are perfectionist continues in our dream life.  One person told me she stopped remembering her dreams because she thought she was not dreaming correctly.  She does not visualize, see visions (pictures), and everyone spoke about seeing their dreams, so she just decided to stop dreaming.  Once she could accept that visions, voices, or feelings are all acceptable in dreams (also in meditation), she started remembering her dreams again.

There are times when a person does have a dream, is consciously aware of dreaming, and understands the dream while it is occurring__then can’t remember anything about it upon awakening.  I believe when this happens it is because the dreamer does not need to analyze the dream.  The information and guidance was understood by the dreamer and analysis would be detrimental in some way.  Perhaps the dreamer would over rationalize the dream contents.

Often people experience nightmares.  Something is going on that must be looked at because it is affecting their emotional health.  Nightmares occur to get the dreamer’s attention.  It always works.  Yet, sometimes the dreamer does not want their attention gotten and stops paying attention to their dreams completely.  This is usual enough for adults and with children it is quite common.

Children’s nightmares are significant.  They are affected even more by the excess information experienced by adults.  Generally they are in the process of learning how to cope and are less able to quickly filter out junk messages.  They are also highly susceptible to their surroundings.  Parents who understand dream interpretation and analysis are better equipped to help their children develop appropriate coping skills.  The feelings of fear generated in bad dreams are a challenge that must be addressed as soon as possible to allow a person__adult or child__to remember their dreams.  The willingness to learn from our dreams is an important aspect of using dream techniques for self-discovery.

This dream certainly got my attention:

I am alone on an island.  I know I have to leave, to go where I can survive.  I know I can swim away from the island or I can go away from the beach to another populated part of the island.  I look towards the ocean.  The waves are about 80 feet high.  Even Though I am a fairly good swimmer, I know I cannot survive the turbulent and rough condition of the gray water.  I will drown and die.  The other option is to leave the beach, going further inland.  I look away from the water and see that I will have to cross a shallow channel.  It is narrow and will only require two or three steps, but it is full of insects.  I am terrified of all the spiders, scorpions, and other stinging insects that make the vision quite unpleasant.  Yet, I know that I will not die from any of the bugs biting me.  I decide to walk through the ditch and do so quickly.  I brush the nasty insects off me and the dream ends.

As the dream ended, I immediately woke up.  Without the aide of any dream book for interpretation, I knew what it meant.  I had decided to leave my husband and our marriage of twenty-two years to make a new life for myself.  A few days prior to the dream I had received a job offer in another county.  I had told my husband that he could come with me, but he would not be allowed to
