Introducing 28 Summers
The story of 28 Summers starts with the female protagonist, Mallory Blessing on her deathbed. She is old and dying and instructs her son, Link, to call on a number written on a page in the drawer of her bedside table. Link is unsure who he is calling and is shocked to hear the voice of Jake McCloud, husband of the presidential candidate, Ursula DeGournsey. He cannot comprehend how his mother knew Jake but does as his mother says, and asks Jake to come and meet her.
The story goes to a flashback, the summer of 93. It shows Mallory Blessing as a young 23-year-old lady. She is desperate to leave her childhood home in Baltimore. She finds her breakthrough when her best friend Leland Gladstone who stays in New York City updates her about a job opening for a literary magazine, Bard & Scribe. Mallory hopes to secure the editorial assistant role and share Leland's apartment that would enable her to leave her dull life
