    Chapter 1

    AND SO IT BEGINS

I remember it like it was yesterday. 3 June 2017, the day Cleopatra came into my life for good. It was the day my world exploded, and it is indelibly etched on my heart.

I knew about the queen, because my sisfur, Patches, had conversations with her. She was an angel to my sisfur, graciously swooning over the exploits of Patches and her snake obsession. (I must admit to having the same reaction.)  Cleopatra ’ s delicate sensibilities and petrified loss of consciousness endeared her to this emotional panfur.  I wanted to gallantly safeguard her despite my own disquietude over creepy reptiles. Our two hearts beat as one, and she brought out a side of me that was heretofore unheard of. We were and are the perfect match.

For those who do not know me, I will disclose a closely guarded secret: I like to flirt. Some toms have the gift of cute fluffiness (Basil, darn him, a noble Rag Doll Persian), and some have the British Blue Shorthair thing going on. (Take Lord Graydon, for example, a big city tom who is grey and white with marshmallow cheeks.) The title does not hurt things either. Both are absolutely two of the handsomest toms on Twitter and my best friends.

I, on the other hand, also enjoy dallying with the lady cats. On the third of June 2017, I commenced such behaviour with SassyCassyCat. She's a sweet, sandy-coloured Persian, and I proceeded to inform her of how charming I found her to be. Just my luck, after numerous attempts to trifle with her affections via tweets, she informed me she was engaged to another tomcat. Not that that stopped me. I continued to flatter the lovely Sassy.

This, of course, caught the attention of my Cleo. She jumped in with a tweet, reading, ‘ Meow such a smoothy, Mr. Tibbs. ’

    How could I resist? I tweeted back, ‘ I be a silver-tongued devil when
