About this ebook
All is not well on Fiend St. Although Jack, his parents and all the ‘irregulars’ have successfully assimilated into normalised society, they now face a terrifying battle against the mongrels, a blood-thirsty race created from the poisonous union of deviant vampire and werewolf blood.
A young werewolf child has been kidnapped, perhaps even slaughtered, and all the witches’ cats have been horribly mutilated in a barbaric attack that can signify only one thing: the mongrels are uprising and no one is safe, especially Makayla, Jack’s mongrel girlfriend.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT
I would like to thank my readers for sticking with me, despite my inclination to genre hop! My impulsive nature has already drawn me into the crazy rom-com, hilarious religious parody, disturbing crime, and controversial thriller categories. And now, with Fiend Street, I am invading the YA (young adult) category with a vengeance! Where to next? That would be telling!

A VAMPIRE’S KISS
Her eyes sheltered beneath their flickering shutters as she leaned across to kiss me. Even I knew that first kisses were really important. They would linger with you like memories of your first day in school, the first CD you ever purchased, or the first time you set suspicious eyes on your newborn baby brother or sister being carried out of the maternity hospital.
This was the moment I had been waiting for since colliding into Makayla three long months ago when driving my quad through the creepy forest. If feeling nauseous was a sign of love then I was well and truly smitten, as my innards felt like they had just been pierced by cupid’s deliriously infectious arrow. My stomach somersaulted as I felt her soft breath against my face. Now it was my turn to bury my eyes.
Her lips were cold…and hairy. The ‘romantic’ ambience permeating the room suddenly evaporated, as a blood curdling roar rebounded violently against my eardrums, and what felt like icy blades of steel scraped across my bloodied face. The smell of wet dog filled my nostrils. I wanted to open my eyelids but they were frozen shut with fear. The soft breath I felt close to my face just seconds ago had changed to drool, now dripping onto my heavily perspiring forehead. After what felt like an eternity, I managed to force open my left eyelid and squinted at the…thing now hovering above me.
Makayla had succumbed to the urges of her mongrel blood and had mutated into a hideous werewolf-like creature, with vicious blood-red eyes and claws as long as steak knives. Protruding from her saliva-soaked mouth were two fangs reaching down to her neck. The fangs were pearly white, ending in a sharp point, like the end of a doctor’s syringe. In a split second her fangs were around my throat, gripping my Adam’s apple tightly. Her thorn-studded tongue slimed across my neck as she prepared to silence my cries of anguish by ripping out my voice box…and then my alarm clock went off.
I awoke to catch a stray sun ray trying its best to burst through my reinforced sun-proofed curtains, attempting to spoil my delicately pale complexion. But I didn’t care. My neck was intact and I was still alive! A wave of relief flooded my cranial cavity, followed by a sense of sadness that my first kiss with Makayla was still something that could only be dreamt about…and my chances of rectifying this sorry affair were slim at best. The fact remained that vampires and mongrels were forbidden to form any type of relationship, and if it was discovered that a romantic liaison had taken place then both parties would be made disappear into oblivion. I had never been to ‘oblivion’ before and guessed it wasn’t a particularly nice place!

LIFE SUCKS
As they say, life sucks and then you die. Although, here’s the thing; I can’t actually die. OK, to be perfectly truthful, I can die, but it’s complicated and very messy. Let me introduce myself. My name is Jack Celby. I’m fifteen-years-old but have the brain of someone much wiser in years, and my favourite food can be found pumping around human veins and arteries. I live in a normal, thankfully detached, house surrounded by not so normal family and friends. My best mate is Zachary Bunting, and he is a thoroughbred werewolf, although all the regulars on the street see him as just another troubled teen with a bad case of attention-deficit hyperactive disorder; which isn’t too bad really, considering us vampire kids are typically diagnosed by ‘normal’ society as being manically depressed, combined with a bad dose of obsessive-compulsive disorder and chronic anaemia. The fact that regulars, that is those not of vampire, werewolf or witch extraction, are not aware of our true nature is a testament to our ability to conform to their way of living, boring and all as it may be!
Anyway, enough about me for a moment. Let me tell you about the cause of my sleepless night. Her name is Makayla. Ah yes, Ma-kay-la. Just rolls off the tongue like treacle, doesn’t it? When I’m not being emotionally distracted by cravings for juicy blood, she alone occupies my mind. She is unlike any creature on earth. Unfortunately, therein lies the problem. Like me, she is a creature, but unlike me, she is a mongrel, about sixty percent vampire and forty percent werewolf. Just my luck then that mongrels have a history of being deceitful, mentally unbalanced and extremely violent. Most remain outside normalised society, continuing to prey on human blood, and unlike vampires of old, the werewolf blood inside them means they have a tendency not just to suck blood discretely from a few well drilled holes but instead to go straight to its source by ripping out and eating their victim’s still beating heart. On the positive side, Makayla does have lovely eyes. Her piercing bright green eyes, and hair as black as Polish coal, nicely compliments with her second-hand hippy attire and unfashionable tendency to over indulge in the use of cheap, brightly coloured make-up. I think she likes me but you can never tell how a mongrel really feels…or any woman for that matter! Some are completely devoid of
