Dan gave his living room one last glance. The place looked presentable. The last thing he wanted was for his kids to walk in and think he’d turned into a slob since the divorce.
God, I’m tired.
He’d barely slept the previous night. No surprise there, of course. And when he had snatched a couple of hours’ sleep, he’d been tormented by anxious dreams of sinking into a deep dark hole, while Tim, Joey, Ruth, and Fliss watched him from above.
He knew better. Fliss had his back. As for the kids? That was the unknown factor.
His phone buzzed, and Dan glanced at the screen, smiling when he saw it was a text from Paul.
How are you?
Dan pressed Call. How do you think?
Paul sighed. Yeah, it was a stupid question. Did you get any sleep?
