About this ebook

Another eclectic mix of traditional poetry, on many different subjects. There is no particular theme and the poetry is often descriptive and also with the usual hidden meanings. As ever, once the verses are in the reader's mind the reader will inevitably interpret the meaning in their own way. Whilst most of the poems are developed from the author's life experience none of the character's can be identified except perhaps the Author.

More Poetry of Many Things - James Hathersage

    1

    Will You Remember?

    ––––––––

And can you still remember now,

    Where snowdrops first peeped through,

To tell us that the spring

    would soon be here?

Our talking to the resting duck

    and drake beside the lake,

    And asking when

    their ducklings might appear?

    -

We spoke of trees that wintered on,

With not one bud to see,

    Which would be first

and which the last to show,

Or when a rabbit startled stood,

    Uncertain what to do,

We guessed how she might choose

    which way to go.

    -

    Do you remember lying

in the park on sunny days,

    When skies were blue

    and clouds were far apart,

    Imagining our future, though

    no one could then foresee,

And knowing far too little of the heart.

    -

    Remembering the candles

    on the splendid chestnut trees,

    Not thinking of the conkers

    in the fall,

Too many links were there to see,

    But never recognised,

Until you were too far away to call.

    -

And as I cling to memories,

    Will you remember too,

    And know them

just as clear as any bell?

Then we will share our memories

and hold them to our hearts,

To cherish more than e’er my words can tell.

    Walking by the Railway.

    ––––––––

I am walking by the railway

and the ‘four o’clock’ is due,

I will see her in the distance

    working hard,

As she climbs the steady gradient

    that leads up Castle Bank,

As if she counts each sleeper

    by the yard.

    -

I can hear the wailing whistle,

    Here she comes
