Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), Endometriosis and Infertility

The tears of joy rolled down my cheeks, as I held my bundle of joy in my hands. My eyes got misty. I faintly remembered all the pain I had gone through to see this day of ultimate happiness in any woman’s life. I caressed my baby as the memories of the days and years that passed by, flashed in front of my eyes.

I can never forget the day when my gynecologist told me that I was not able to get pregnant because I suffered from endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Being a doctor myself, I was well aware what endometriosis and PCOS meant and how it could affect my likelihood of getting pregnant. It is one of the most common causes of infertility in women. But, she assured me that it can be treated and I would be able to bear a child soon.

She was right! Yes, I had to go through a lot of tests, take painful injections and even tried several alternative therapies. There were times when I felt there was no use of going through all this. The failure of certain expensive treatments could have pushed me into deep depression had my family not supported me strongly. And when all these efforts yielded the much awaited results, I thought it was time to share my experience with all the women who are fighting infertility so that they would get the right guidance. I have tried too many things. I don’t want all the women to try them all and exhaust themselves as the failure can be too demotivating. My experience has taught me which therapies have higher chances of giving success and I am more than happy to share them with you! So, here’s my journey from wanting-to-become-a-mother to stepping into the motherhood.

    What is infertility?

Infertility, in simple terms, means the inability to conceive even after 12 months of regular intercourse. A couple can be considered to have fertility problems only if they have tried and failed to conceive for more than one year.

    What causes infertility in females?

A new life begins when an egg from a woman is fertilized by a sperm from a man. However, due to the intricate and complex nature of the female reproductive tract, there can be numerous reasons why a woman may have troubles in getting pregnant.

The most common causes of female infertility are:

    Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS

    Endometriosis

    Ovulation problems

    Problems with the fallopian tubes

    Uterine adhesions

    Uterine fibroids

    Pelvic Adhesions

    Decreased Ovarian Reserve

    Premature Ovarian Failure

    Endometriosis

    Endometriosis is a condition
