    Poetry I: Sunrise

    Sunrise

    Night gathers

    What day leaves

    Behind it:

    Dancing moon,

    Hooting owl,

    Watching cat.

    Dark hours

    Build forces--

    Sunrise birth.

    Dawn

    Dawn has these pink fingers

    She uses to reveal morning,

    Then thumbs her phone

    To tell the gods

    It’s happening again,

    They’re panicking,

    Send help.

    The gods laugh,

    Delete their messages.

    When people text Dawn

    they get form replies:

    We’ll get back to you

    As soon as we can

    Thank you for your patience.

    They’re the many

    Calling for help

    To gods who laugh,

    The human story--

    Until people learn how

    To care for each other.

    The Hillside Tree

    The hillside tree,

    Autumn sentinel, survivor,

    Wood spirit tested by fire,

    Emerged with scars--

    Greets the sky every morning.

    Bright

    In the bright

    Otherworld of love,

    Sun meets moon

    To tell us

There’s more to life than we see--

    When the heart opens.

    Road Mystery

    A sign on the road,

    Weather-beaten blank,

    From a town long ago,

    Swallowed by a forest,

    Glowing a weird green

    In a fog that covers

    Where the town ends,

    Where the world begins.

    Finding History

    I follow

    A cat down the street

    To old homes,

    History

    Of a people once vivid,

    Now silent, dreaming.

    Wishes

    To swim with seahorses

    To the distant shores

    Of Sho-nak-ba.

    To soar with butterflies

    Through woods of green

    In the land of Ma-jo-ta.

    To dash with roadrunners

    Across the pink deserts

    Of Yar-ith-va.

    More Sense

    At the last meeting

    The sages agreed:

    In these times,

    A third eye isn’t enough.

    Other senses must evolve

    From the origin place
