About this ebook

I write devotions for my Church. We take two verses and then write what we think. Some people like what I write because I am a regular guy just working hard. I can't tell you what the Bible meant, but I can tell you what I think the verses mean to us in the 21st century.

    About the author

The author – My name is Alan Todd and I am a simple man. Meaning that I have no training in religion outside of what I learned in Church or from my some independent classes and of course, the Bible.   I am a Christian, but I am also a living breathing part of society.  Which means that these are just my thoughts and I hope they get you to think too.  Life is a great experience, but one needs to be willing to embrace it.

There is a loud segment of society that are convinced things have to be a certain way.  Well, Christian or no, I am on the other side.  I think life is made up of a living breathing God, but I don’t know. However, that is the essence of faith.

And you know what, I’m totally good with it.

These devotions are a collection of writings that I have done over the course of the last couple of years.

    Enjoy!

Other titles published by me included Daily Devotions from a simple man (same type of writing as this book)

    Listening

Lord there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty.  2nd Chronicles 14:11

In this world you will have trouble. But take heart. I have overcome the world. John 16:33

I had an epiphany the other day.  I was in a meeting at work and there was a somewhat impassioned discussion going on about a topic that didn’t interest me much.  There were two sides going back and forth with some intensity.

But what caught my attention was the absence of listening.  Both sides were so sure they were right that when one side started to speak the other started to prepare their response and so on.  You can imagine.  You’ve been there.  We’ve all been there.

As I watched the verbal tennis match, it dawned on me that it ultimately didn’t matter what the message or the position of the one side or the other side was because when no one is listening it doesn’t matter what the message is.   Needless to say the meeting ended in an agree to disagree fashion.   Also called no progress.   G-r-e-a-t.  Sounds like another meeting on this topic in my future.

But that meeting and my ah ha moment has stayed with me these past few days.  For whatever reason I keep remembering that if no one listens it doesn’t matter what the message is.  That got me thinking about God and our satisfaction or dissatisfaction in life.

When we are happy with our life we are all smiles.  All is well.  Everything is as it should be.  God is in a good place in our lives and we don’t think too much about it.

But for many of us, when things go a little sideways (or perhaps a lot sideways) we argue and rage against the unfairness we see.   We fall into our own bad behaviors of why me and such.  We ask where is God?  We feel lost and even abandoned.   The black cloud
