Eiffel Tower Carousel
The Eiffel Tower carousel, shown on the cover of this book is one of the most beautiful carousels in Paris. The carousel is located off to the side of the Eiffel Tower, on the corner of the Pont d’Lena and Quai Brandy, near Champ de Mars Park; adjacent to the Eiffel Tower. I took numerous pictures of the Eiffel Tower from a tour boat going up and down the River Seine, but only one picture made the carousel look like it was under the Eiffel Tower. Somehow I got the perfect angle to make the carousel look like it was under there, one of my favorite pictures. Paris is known for several wonderful attractions, but it’s also known as the city of carousels. The beautiful carousels that are located in different spots around this spectacular city are amazing. (See Contents under Carousel.) In the background you can see the Palais de Chaillot, across the Seine River. On the side of the picture you can see the statue Mercy, a Roman warrior and his horse, located at the entrance of Pont Alexander III Bridge.

Introduction
To Know Paris is to Love Her.
I will never forget the wonders of her charm and beauty.
I come from a small town in Missouri. I have always dreamed of traveling to Europe. I started saving for my travel dreams about twenty years before I retired. This is my first attempt at writing a book, if I make a mistake in my grammar please forgive me, I’m writing from my heart and not a text book. I hope my book will motivate you to travel, as the experience is priceless. I was inspired to write this book when I missed seeing the magnificent Saint Chapelle Chapel in Paris, on my first trip to Paris. I could have used a good tour guidebook. My daughter-in-law gave me a tour book for Paris, it had a lot of unnecessary information, with few pictures; it wasn’t much help. I even did some research on the internet, I thought it would help me, it was helpful but not enough. I took hundreds of photos in Paris, but by the time I returned home I only knew what some of the pictures were, I had to go to the Internet to look up the other pictures. When I found these pictures I also read some very interesting information about them that I wish I had known before my trip. I know I would have appreciated so much more some of the wonderful things I seen if I had known more about them.
One of the pictures was a scenery picture that showed Pont Neuf Bridge. I recognized almost everything in the picture except a tall steeple in the back-ground. I discovered it was an old Gothic church, the majestic Sainte-Chapelle Chapel. The pictures I found of Sainte-Chapelle Chapel on the Internet were amazing, with its 1,000 stained glass windows. I felt like crying, knowing I had been so close but didn’t even know it was there. This is the picture that inspired my book. After days of being upset I decided that I could write a tour book about Paris with information that would really help people get the most out of their visit to this wonderful city.
I wrote this book because I want to help make your trip special, by giving you the information you need that will make it easier to see the sites and attractions that will interest you the most. To the best of my knowledge and research, I have almost everything you need to know covered in my book. Even with a guided tour, my book will still help you.
Paris has so much to offer to visitors and residents alike. You will be amazed by all there is to see and do. You can enjoy traveling at any age, I was in my sixties when I started traveling. There were more travelers in my age group than the younger ages, so don’t let age stop you from experiencing a travel adventure. When I set out to explore the world, I decided to use a travel company that arranged group travel. I learned so much in every place I traveled, not only about the place itself but also how interesting the people are—and the food is great.
Before I started traveling, I had heard that the people in Europe didn’t like Americans, I found this to be so untrue! Everyone I encountered was friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. It was wonderful meeting so many charming people. I believe you get what you give. Put a smile on your face and be friendly, and you will be amazed how nice people really are.
Although I chose to travel in a group, at every place we stopped there was free time without planned activity. I took advantage of this time to explore places that were not on the itinerary. I truly enjoyed the freedom of exploring on my own. If I got lost, it wasn’t a big deal. When you check into each hotel, you need to take a picture (digital camera) of the front of the hotel showing the hotel sign and pick up a card or brochure with the hotel’s address on it, that way if you get separated from the group or get lost when you are out exploring all you have to do is show the photo and address to a taxi driver, who would bring you back to the hotel. I’ve been to ten countries in Europe, and I never felt uncomfortable, scared, or threatened, I loved every minute of it.
I want to get you excited about Paris with all the
beautiful places to see and experience.
Paris really inspired me. I know if I’d had the pictures and information in this book, my trip would have been even better. I think it’s important to have a picture of the buildings or attractions so you can recognize them when you see them, along with having the information about them, this makes it easier to know if you want to see more of them.
After four years I finally returned to Paris and visited Sainte-Chapelle, with its beautiful 1,000 stained glass windows. The chapel was everything I’d dreamed it would be—I couldn’t stop taking pictures. The first floor was spectacular, but when I got to the second floor, the beauty took my breath away. Words or pictures can’t adequately describe the beauty and tranquility of this chapel. I experienced feeling here I haven’t felt in other churches. There were a number of visitors that day, but everyone was quiet. I think they felt the same as I did, they had a look of wonder. At one point, I just sat and took in the beautiful of the stained glass, magnificent carvings and statues. It was hard for me to leave. I highly recommend putting this chapel on a must-see list, it’s only a couple of blocks from Notre Dame. When I left the church, I took a rickshaw ride back to Place de la Concorde square to meet up with my tour bus. Traveling in the rickshaw through Paris was an exciting experience that I loved.

Paris Is the Capital &
The Most Popular City in France.
This wonderful city has many nicknames—the City of Love, the City of Carousels, and the most famous, the City of Lights. Paris was the first European city to adopt gas street lighting on the Passage des Panoramas, the first gas-lit thoroughfare, in 1817. Paris is situated in the north central portion of France on the River Seine. This metropolitan area of France is one of the largest population centers in Europe, with more than twelve million people. By the late twelfth century, Paris had become a walled cathedral city that was one of Europe’s biggest centers of learning and the arts. Paris was the largest city in the Western world until the 18th century and has been a focal point for many important political events throughout its history, including the French Revolution. Today, Paris is one of the world’s leading business and cultural centers, and its influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, science, fashion, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world’s major cities.
The weather in Paris is mild most of the year. Rain is common, but rainy days are less common in the winter than other seasons. Springtime in Paris, from March to May, is magical, and autumn is a close second. In spring, Parisians spend their time outside at sidewalk cafés, walking along the river, watching the many boats, and enjoying the day. Or they go to one of the city’s many beautiful parks for picnics and other activities. Summertime is the peak tourist season. In midsummer, you can discover the Paris Plages, events with activities and performances along the Seine. August is usually hot and sticky, so Parisians often take their yearly vacations then; this means some businesses likely will be closed, and the opera and orchestra venues are mostly on break. In early October, you can experience the annual Nuit Blanche, an all-night festival dedicated to arts that takes place all around the city. January is the coldest month, with the average minimum temperature falling to thirty-seven degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature rises gradually from that point, and by July the temperature is usually a pleasant seventy-nine degrees. Winter in Paris is generally cold and wet, but freezing temperatures and ice are rare. You might see an occasional snowfall, but it melts fast. Paris is enjoyable in any season
Be prepared to be astonished with everything this magnificent city has to offer.
Paris Has a Wide Variety of Historic
Museums & Palaces.
Paris offers 130 beautiful museums, and magnificent palaces, interesting theaters, prestigious monuments, impressive statues and fountains, plus lovely historic bridges and the list go on. Most of the palaces and mansions are now museums, government buildings and hotels. There are 421 beautiful parks and gardens, and 22 theme parks. You’ll also find fantastic malls, large beautiful department stores, and wonderfully unique small malls built in enclosed allies.
Paris is referred to as international capital of style and high-end boutiques. It has something for everyone. Paris is world renowned for its fabulous cuisine, attracting the world’s leading chefs. Check out the many outside cafés; they are very popular. You can sit and watch people pass by while enjoying a delicious meal. Most cafés will make a picnic lunch for you to take to the park, a very popular activity. The bakeries and candy stores will excite your eyes and weaken your willpower.
