About this ebook

Two strangers are selected for an amazing gift. Their lives will be utterly changed. Each man, however, will follow distinctly different paths and become leaders for distinctly different movements. A modern-day parable on stewardship, the Temple of the Holy Spirit, the Gospel, and free will (and, possibly, Global Warming!).

    About the Author:

    The Gift

Two men sit nervously in the dark, empty garage.

The first man is short and round, while the man sitting next to him is very tall and extremely thin. Looking in through a window at the two men, you might think you witnessed the enactment of some tired old joke. But in reality the two men do not know each other, have never met before, and each hardly knows why it is that they have been summoned to this place, a monstrous automobile garage, empty of all vehicles or mechanics, with only two white folding chairs.

Identical papers in each man’s hand impart directions to take a chair. The men sit.

The round man, Barney, keeps talking. He talks about the weather. He tells about his fix-it shop in Tennessee. He talks about his powerful muscle car all in flaming red and how he loves to drag race the city slickers in their European rattletraps.

The skinny man, Frederic, does not say much. He nods politely to Barney, and hmmm’s and oh’s and often smiles shyly, but does not seem to have much to say. He folds his long-fingered hands in his lap.

An alarming noise snaps the two men into attention, each gulping loudly.

The rumble of gigantic automotive engines cut out any possibility of speech, as a motorcade of massive Humvees enter the garage, shaking the cement
