INTRODUCTION
Psychology is the study and analysis of the human mind and of human behaviors and tendencies. Psychology in Islam
is an attempt to understand the human mind in the light of Divine Scriptures and the teachings of the Messengers of Islam through the ages: Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and others, concluding with Mohammad, the seal of authentic and divine Prophethood (Peace and blessings be upon their righteous families and followers). To clarify, all major religions for the most part are considered to have been Islam
¹ in their original form as transmitted by the authentic Messengers and representatives of God. Islam: meaning to submit to and be at peace with God.
Psychology in Islam
incorporates the spiritual component of human psychology. While some established theories, such as Abraham Maslow’s and Carl Rogers’, also include a focus on fulfilling potential regardless of circumstances, the theory presented here involves a more explicit scriptural foundation in order to achieve a complete understanding of the human psychology as intended by its designer and creator: God, the Exalted above all. Minimal scriptural references are used in this thesis in order to keep this transcript short and simple. In God we trust.
