CHAPTER 1
I bought the house in the summer of 2012 although I didn’t actually see it with my own eyes, nor did I step foot into it until the Autumn of that year. Interested only in practicality I had instructed the estate agent to find me an abode of sufficient size to cater for myself and for my three mastiff hounds, and for it to have generous grounds for the hounds to exercise. Requesting nothing more and nothing less apart from it being somewhere close to the ancient town and fishing port of Whitby, I left my name and telephone number with the agent and continued my day to day life.
I had come into a considerable amount of money just weeks earlier when my Uncle Elijah, whom I must confess I had not even heard of, let alone met, had died and I was apparently next, and last, of kin.

After giving them my requirements in a property and, even though I do say so myself, a considerably large window, price wise, it wasn’t long before they had found two properties that would fit me perfectly, both much cheaper than I expected, one significantly so. Then again I was used to southern prices, and the price difference between the two halves of the country could be staggering.
After giving me the briefest of descriptions over the telephone they emailed me a very detailed brochure of both properties including several photographs.
The first property was called London house and was a huge handsome sandstone mansion built in the 1700’s. It boasted seven huge bedrooms, stables, outbuildings and around five acres of land though it did have a price tag of seven
