      My Truth

      You say you want it raw

      You say you want it straight

      You say it would help you appreciate

      The woman I have become

      But when I share

      From where my story begins

      It becomes clear

      You can’t handle the truth I carry within

      My truth is hopeless

      My truth is scared

      My truth is ugly

      My truth is sad

      My truth is mad

      My truth is getting high in a smoke-filled room

      My truth smells of alcohol drenched clothes

      With a scent of sweet perfume

      My truth is broken glass and shattered dreams

      My truth is piercing screams

      My truth is daunting and desperate days

      My truth is cold sleepless nights

      And everything in between

      My truth is satin stained pillows covered with dried teardrops

      From an all-night cry

      My truth is bittersweet good-byes

      And, then

      Love stepped in

      My story forever changed

      And so did my truth

      My truth is..

      I am a new creation

      With a new heart and new head

      I am committed to serving Christ Jesus

      For He resurrected me from the dead

      I am committed to family, community, and a life of prayer

      Forever seeking
