    Prologue

    It had been another uneventful morning at the Apollo Medical General Hospital in Canterbury. Not at all surprising given that most of First Planet's population was concentrated in regional capitals like Beijing, London and Moscow; leaving most smaller cities like Canterbury very sparsely populated.

    Dr. Richardson was quite glad that nothing terribly important was going on as he strode through the facility’s gleaming white halls; for although the hospital itself was not busy, he had a full schedule. The first item of which was to deliver an offer he very much hoped would be turned down.

    The lighting dimmed and a slight chill set in as Dr. Richardson crossed the threshold of the Epione Trauma Centre. His breath sharpened slightly as the doors slid shut behind him, plunging the dreary hall into a sombre silence. The unnerving silence did nothing to ease his mind as he made his way through the dismal hallway to his destination. Moments later he stood before a dull grey, windowless door that would have otherwise been insignificant if it weren't for the bright green text on its info-panel that read Dr. Laian.

    Dr. Richardson hesitated before he knocked, bracing himself for the possibility of an unfavourable outcome. Once he was as prepared as he could be, he delivered three sharp taps to the metal door.

    Without a word the door slid open, revealing a dim, grey square office. The office was nothing out of the ordinary. It featured a plain white desk, its surface decorated with neatly stacked Digi-Pads and shimmering with the light of the
