Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. Across the country, people observe the day with speeches, poetry readings, festivals, picnics, street fairs, and family reunions. It is a day for people to come together and continue working toward equality. Readers will discover how a shared holiday can have multiple traditions and be celebrated in all sorts of ways.

Lisa A. Crayton once wanted to be a physical therapist. That changed when she fell in love with writing while taking an eight-grade journalism class. A former corporate publications editor and writer, she is an editor and an award-winning writer. As a children’s book author, she has written fifteen books for kids and teens, and co-authored six others. She loves coaching writers, and especially enjoys speaking at writers’ conferences. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from National University, and a bachelor’s degree in public relations and journalism, cum laude, from Utica College.
